Research Scientist – Robot Perception: GE Vernova Advanced Research GE Vernova’s researchers work on the advancement of robot perception technology for industrial domains, ultimately contributing to the Energy Transition by electrifying the world and decarbonizing the energy sector.

As a Research Scientist in robotic perception, you will play a key role in solving challenging robot perception problems for various robotic platforms (i.e., manipulators, quadrupeds) in industrial settings. You will join a world‑class research team working on scene understanding, object manipulation, and vision foundation models. You will shape novel techniques to expand the ability for robots to effectively interact with the world and develop algorithms for robotic systems across renewable energy, power generation, electric grids, and manufacturing.

This role involves working on projects with GE Vernova’s business units and collaborating with researchers across disciplines. You will also have opportunities to work on government‑sponsored, cutting‑edge research programs with external partners in academia and government.

Representing virtually every major scientific and engineering discipline, our researchers collaborate with GE Vernova’s businesses, the U.S. government, and more than 420 technology partners to execute over 150 energy‑focused projects.

Essential Responsibilities

Work with teams of researchers on new and continuing projects.

Develop robotic perception modules for industrial manipulators.

Creatively combine state‑of‑the‑art open‑source models and in‑house data to advance robot capabilities.

Write high‑quality, documented, tested, and maintainable Python/C/C++ code in a large shared codebase.

Implement and analyze prototypes and solutions for real‑world problems.

Create intellectual property by writing invention disclosures and filing patents.

Publish research work to scientific journals and conferences.

Write and/or support grant proposals.

Qualifications / Requirements

PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related fields with a focus on robotics, computer vision, or similar; OR MS + 2 years’ work experience in similar areas.

Strong computer vision / graphics research background.

Track record of published peer‑reviewed research in topics such as:

Learned 3D reconstruction, depth prediction, feature matching, semantic segmentation, object 6‑DoF pose and shape estimation

Vision‑language models

Multimodal perception with vision/proprioception/touch sensing

Learned visual representations and foundation models for robot manipulation

Proficiency in Python programming and popular machine learning frameworks.

Legal authorization to work in the U.S.; we will not sponsor individuals at the Master’s level for employment visas, now or in the future.

Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

Desired Characteristics

PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, Computer Graphics, or a related field.

Hands‑on robotics experience (manipulators, quadrupeds, etc.).

Practical knowledge of 3D geometry, projective geometry, camera models.

Compensation & Benefits The salary range for this position is $85,600 – $140,000 USD annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by your education and skill set. This position may also be eligible for a sign‑on incentive and new‑hire equity grant based on meeting certain eligibility criteria.

For a U.S.‑based position, the pay range is between $88,600 and $147,600. The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas. Bonus eligibility is discretionary annual bonus.
