This is a non-partisan position, and the successful candidate will be expected to remain free from political party affiliation, bias, or designation for the duration of the appointment.

Telework:
This position will work on-site in Minnesota Senate Building, State Capitol, and Senate Chamber.
Days of Work/Hours:
Monday-Friday/8am-5pm or as needed. This position may have irregular hours during the legislative session, including occasional evening and weekend work.

Appointment Duration:
This position has an anticipated end date of late May 2026.

Second Assistant Secretary of the Senate

This position will be open until December 22, 2025, at 4pm.
Position Summary The Lead Committee Page will coordinate and schedule the Committee Pages work. This position will assist the Senate Chamber Front Desk and Committees while performing a variety of administrative duties during the legislative session. This position will work closely with the Second Assistant Secretary of the Senate and all Committee Pages.
An ideal candidate will have an interest in the legislative process. We seek someone who has experience leading a team or project and able to coordinate multiple schedules in a rapidly changing environment.
In this temporary position, you will not be eligible for health benefits. However, you will be eligible for holiday pay, deferred compensation, our employee assistance program (EAP), staff parking, and Metro Transit options.

Ability to lift up to 30lbs, stand and sit for long periods of time, and walk between the Minnesota Senate Building, State Office Building, and Capitol.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to work in a non-partisan capacity, supporting all members and staff regardless of party affiliation or position.
Organizational skills to sufficiently coordinate and schedule the work of all Committee Pages.
Ability to handle sensitive information with tact and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal to effectively communicate with Senate staff and members.
Strong leadership skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Teams), Zoom, and other virtual meeting programs.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and understanding of the legislative process.
Experience leading a team or project.
Competencies
Time management skills to balance conflicting demands and tasks.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with legislators, staff, state agency staff, and others.
Ability to work independently and with a team.
