System Safety Engineer – Systems Planning & Analysis Join to apply for the Systems Safety Engineer role at Systems Planning & Analysis.

Overview SPA delivers high‑impact technical solutions to national security challenges. The Systems Safety Engineer will be part of the Strategic Division supporting the Navy and other agencies, focusing on safety management for complex weapons systems.

Responsibilities

Provide safety planning and oversight for the Nuclear‑Armed Sea‑Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM‑N) Program.

Act as liaison with safety working groups and contractor safety teams.

Identify and document safety hazards, mishaps, and risk information for SLCM‑N.

Oversee safety disciplines such as discrepancy reporting, training, documentation change control, configuration control, material review, corrective actions, and process proofing.

Support broader safety areas including weapons systems safety, explosive safety, environmental and asset safety, transportation safety, fire prevention, lightning protection, occupational safety, and hazardous material (HAZMAT) safety.

Required Qualifications

Active SECRET or higher DoD security clearance.

5+ years of experience as a System Safety Engineer.

Strong communication skills, capable of briefing senior leadership.

Ability to prioritize and execute workload under tight deadlines.

Experience working in a fast‑paced environment with incomplete data.

Desired Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a STEM field.

Experience in nuclear weapons safety, Navy weapons safety, explosives safety, or related safety domains.

Active DoD TOP SECRET clearance.

Location Washington, D.C.

Salary Range $125,000 – $175,000 (pay transparency)
