At KIPP Public Schools Northern California, there is a need for intensive English Language support for all of our multilingual learners and for reading intervention. The ELD teacher reports to the School Leader and will facilitate language instruction using research-based standards-aligned curriculum. Below are the expectations of all teachers working in KIPP Northern California: Our schools are looking for talented and committed teachers to play a key role in the establishment of curriculum and culture as they develop a world‑class education program from the stages of vision to execution. The outcomes our students deserve necessitate continuously strong teaching from the time our students enter kindergarten until they graduate from college. As such, our teachers will work closely with each school’s leadership team to ensure our students learn, grow, and eventually achieve transformative life outcomes. Each teacher will be responsible for ensuring that our students have the opportunity to learn in an environment of joyful, excellent teaching. Above all else, the most effective teacher will find joy and purpose in teaching children the habits necessary to be successful in school, and they will relish the opportunity to imbue our students with a love for learning. They must also be committed to KIPP Public Schools Northern California’s mission, while possessing the beliefs, character traits, and skills necessary to ensure student growth and achievement. Teachers are expected to plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a TK‑12 learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic and socio‑emotional potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal. All KIPP Teachers must: Model KIPP values Be committed to being an anti‑racist educator Believe all students can achieve at the highest academic levels Possess strong content area knowledge and build relationships with students, families, and communities Teach in our extended day and year schedule Contribute to a relentless and dedicated team of outstanding professionals Communicate well with students, families, and colleagues Have proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications Have the ability to learn and utilize instructional technology to support in‑class and distance learning Hold a B.A/B.S degree from a regionally accredited institution Hold a valid teaching credential or be in the process of securing one Qualifications
Hold a B.A/B.S degree from a regionally accredited institution Meet one of the following eligibility requirements: Hold a valid teaching credential in the subject of your desired role, or Eligibility for a Provisional Internship Permit or Eligibility for a Short Term Staff Permit (CPR certification by American Heart Association or American Red Cross is a prerequisite for this permit) Experience as an educator teaching Black and Brown students for one or more years (preferred) Spanish speaking (preferred) Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Lead an academically rigorous classroom through activities such as: Develop lesson plans for English language arts and English language development Teach curricula aligned to ELD standards and Common Core ELA standards Support and coach teachers on how to integrate ELD into their core content areas Assess and analyze students’ performance and progress to ensure they are mastering developmental skills regularly, and respond to data to support all scholars to achieve academic success Build relationships with our students, passionate staff, and committed families by: Maintain an open line of communication with families Work to maintain a positive culture on campus by building strong relationships with students and staff members Successfully strike a balance of warm and demanding in your communication with students Establish and maintain standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands
Physical:
Ability to navigate school and classroom settings, access and utilize technology, occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1‑20 lbs., physical agility to move self in various positions to execute duties effectively. Mental:
Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods, perform routine math, memorise and recall objects and people. Environmental:
School and classroom environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Adhere to KIPP’s health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies’ recommendations. Classification
