A Typical Day The Sr Data Platform Engineer - SQL Server Specialist leads the design, optimization, and management of our enterprise data platform infrastructure, with a primary focus on advanced SQL Server implementations. This role supports critical business functions through sophisticated database platform development, including pricing analytics, trading systems, hedging models, and pooling operations, ensuring scalable, performant, and reliable data solutions across the organization. You’ll leverage modern AI‑assisted development tools to accelerate development cycles while also architecting data solutions that power AI/ML initiatives across the business—from predictive analytics to intelligent automation.
The Sr Data Platform Engineer - SQL Server Specialist will:
Advanced SQL Server Expertise – Architect, optimize, and manage complex SQL Server environments including Always On Availability Groups, Replication, Mirroring, and performance tuning at enterprise scale
Expert T‑SQL Development – Design and implement advanced features including stored procedures, dynamic SQL, Common Table Expressions (CTEs), window functions, and query optimization for complex data operations
Database Architecture & Design – Lead enterprise data modeling, dimensional modeling, and modern database design patterns in SQL Server
High Availability & Disaster Recovery – Design and manage SQL Server HA/DR solutions including backup strategies, failover clustering, and business continuity planning
Strong proficiency with Python 3, Object‑Oriented Programming & Design Patterns for data pipeline development
Solid experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and serverless technologies for data integration
Strong experience with advanced SQL, query optimization, and database performance tuning
Experience with REST APIs and data integration patterns
Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows
Experience with comprehensive testing strategies including unit and integration testing
Experience with event‑driven architectures and microservices in data contexts
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform)
Knowledge of DataOps practices (CI/CD for data pipelines, automated testing)
Knowledge of Agile, Scrum, Jira methodologies
Preferred: Experience with AI‑assisted development tools (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.) to accelerate coding and architecture design
Preferred: Experience architecting or supporting data pipelines for AI/ML workloads, including feature engineering, data preparation, and model‑serving infrastructure
Preferred: Experience with Snowflake, cloud data warehousing concepts, and hybrid on‑premises/cloud database strategies
What You’ll Bring
Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Engineering, or similar technical major
5+ years of software development experience with 4+ years of advanced SQL Server experience
Expert‑level SQL Server skills including performance optimization, High Availability/Disaster Recovery, cost management, and enterprise‑scale implementations
Deep understanding of relational database concepts, ETL/ELT patterns, OLTP/OLAP, and modern data architecture principles
Extensive experience with SQL Server administration, including indexing strategies, query execution plans, and performance monitoring
Extensive experience with databases at enterprise scale, including both relational and NoSQL technologies
Demonstrated ability to master advanced database platform technologies such as replication, streaming, data orchestration, governance, security, monitoring, or performance optimization
Proven track record of architecting and implementing business‑critical database solutions that improve stability, security, performance, and scalability
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex database architecture concepts to engineers, product owners, project managers, and business stakeholders
Demonstrated experience in multi‑team collaboration and agile development practices, particularly in data‑focused environments
Ability to collaborate across teams and design database systems that address architectural gaps and scalability challenges
Comfort learning and adopting emerging technologies, including AI‑assisted development tools and AI‑driven data solutions
Preferred: Financial Services and mortgage industry experience, particularly with regulatory reporting, risk management, and loan servicing data requirements
