Job Description If you thrive in a fast‑paced, process‑oriented environment, join us to lead one of our department operations—perishable departments, center store, inventory flow, receiving, or shelf edge, with a specific emphasis on your expertise (produce, market, front end).
Responsibilities Management
Use independent judgment to make employment‑related and business decisions, and recommend such decisions, including product and department strategies, hiring, promoting, disciplining, suspending, discharging, rewarding, or resolving partner‑related matters.
Manage staffing, personnel and training for the area of focus.
Review and analyze financial and performance reports, identify opportunities or issues, and follow up.
Lead the Operational Review Team (ORT) related audits and findings.
Conduct detailed store and/or department walks.
Maintain work instructions for the area of focus.
Monitor and report inventory estimates and Direct Store Delivery (DSD) accounting.
Utilize ownership mentality in your department and the total store.
Create weekly schedules to meet business needs.
Operate in a cross‑functional environment.
Ensure proper order and inventory levels within your department.
Order product and perform quality control.
Participate in the store leadership team to coordinate, integrate, and align total store plans.
Support Leadership and Department teams with a total store mindset.
Sales / Strategy
Manage operations in the area of focus; monitor craftsmanship, shrink, safety, and quality assurance.
Create actionable plans and follow up on “What Ifs.”
Serve as the Brand Promise Champion.
Customer Service
Focus on partner/customer relationships, collaboration, communication, and education.
Model and cultivate superior customer service across store departments.
Identify and develop future talent.
Model and promote active engagement with the community.
Area of Focus / Department Inventory Flow
Manage the center store inventory workflow, including receiving and shelf edge.
Assist in weekly execution of center store merchandiser planner.
Organize and plan using the daily forecast in relation to inventory workflow.
Lead the inventory flow team to maximize productivity and efficiencies.
Front End
Manage overall front end operations.
Ensure customer service with efficient throughput.
Ensure all front end operating procedures are followed.
Manage a large team efficiently.
Market
Manage overall meat market operations.
Ensure food safety compliance and partner safety requirements are followed.
Have a strong knowledge of meat cutting equipment, specialty meat items, and meat cooking techniques.
Produce / Bakery
Manage overall produce and bakery operations.
Plan and execute production plans and merchandising programs to drive sales in produce and bakery.
Ensure food safety compliance and partner safety requirements are followed.
Floor (Total Store)
Ensure a proper store close, evening replenishment, and appropriate store conditions are maintained.
Be accountable for proper level, organization and purchasing of all supplies for total store.
Be accountable for all safety programs and regulations.
Be accountable for sanitation and pest control programs.
Manage the total store recovery team.
Qualifications
Completion of H‑E‑B’s or JVSS’s Management Training Program.
Operational/Retail Management experience.
Leadership experience in a complex environment with multiple direct reports.
Thorough understanding of retail accounting.
Experience in ordering, inventory maintenance, and shrink control.
Leadership skills (people leadership, ownership mentality, strategic planning, adaptability).
Interpersonal skills.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including night shifts.
Required Training
Successful completion of JVSS or H‑E‑B School of Retail Management (SORM).
Physical Requirements Lift moderate to heavy loads, bend, push/pull, kneel, squat, stand and walk for long periods of time. The environment includes moving mechanical parts and equipment in wet, humid, dry, cold and hot conditions. Noise level is usually moderate. This is a fast‑paced environment that requires shifting priorities and assignments. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
