Job Description
The Department of Computational, Engineering, and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) invites applications for the department chair position to begin in Fall 2026. As the academic and administrative leader of the department, the chair will manage faculty, staff, and student affairs, play a key role in budget and resource management, oversee strategic planning, and represent the department to external stakeholders. The chair will also foster excellence in teaching, research, and service while promoting the strategic goals of the department, college, and institution.
This position is a 12‑month, full‑time appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure on arrival pending approval from the Texas A&M System Board of Regents. The chair will receive three months of summer salary with a 50% administrative assignment. In addition to the administrative duties described above, the chair is expected to fulfill teaching and research duties sufficient to hold the rank of a tenured Professor.
The department offers undergraduate degrees in Computer Science, Cyber Engineering Technology, Cybersecurity, Electronic Systems Engineering Technology, and Mathematics. Computer Science and Cybersecurity each offer a master’s degree. The department also supports service courses in Physics and may support the future development of engineering programs.
Salary:
Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Required Education and Experience:
An earned Doctoral degree in an area represented by the department or a closely related field.
Ten (10) years of full‑time university faculty experience, including at least four (4) years in the rank of Associate Professor. Related professional experience may substitute in rare cases.
A strong record of active research and teaching excellence.
Demonstrated record of effective administrative leadership.
Demonstrated record of securing external research funding.
Experience teaching, supervising, and advising undergraduate and graduate students.
Experience with instructional technology and online course development.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Expertise and teaching experience in one of the areas within Computational, Engineering, and Mathematical Sciences.
Leadership roles in professional organizations.
Experience with department accreditation and/or program review processes.
Experience launching and developing new programs, and expanding existing programs.
