Join Southeast Missouri State University as the Dean of the College of Education, Health and Human Studies (EHSS), located in Cape Girardeau, MO. The position requires an innovative leader capable of providing strategic vision and direction while serving as the principal academic and administrative officer of the college.
Position Summary The Dean will set long‑term goals for academic excellence and operational effectiveness, working closely with faculty, staff, and students. Responsibilities include fostering an environment that encourages collaboration, championing innovation in teaching, research, and community engagement, developing new academic programs, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities, and building partnerships within and beyond the university.
College Overview The College of Education, Health and Human Studies comprises seven departments: Child and Family Studies; Communication Disorders; Elementary, Early, and Special Education; Allied Health, Kinesiology and Sports Sciences; Leadership, Middle and Secondary Education; Nursing; and Psychology and Counseling. Approximately 150 faculty and staff serve about 1,800 undergraduate majors and around 480 graduate students. The college emphasizes classroom learning coupled with practical field experience and includes five professional centers: the Edvolution Center, Autism Center, Center for Speech and Hearing, University School for Young Children, and Lift for Life Academy charter school.
Required Qualifications
Earned doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D., or a clinically‑based doctorate) in education, health, psychology, or a related field from a regionally accredited university.
Record of accomplishment consistent with appointment as a tenured, full‑professor in one of the college’s departments.
Distinguished teaching experience and scholarly achievement.
Significant administrative and leadership experience, including program accreditation and assessment.
Commitment to collegiality and shared governance.
Ability to maintain and strengthen ties with educational, social service, and health‑related communities.
Experience securing external resources through fundraising, grants, and contracts.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
Experience managing and strategically using budgets.
Advocacy background for alumni, donors, students, faculty, and staff.
