Role Overview Design the Hardware Behind High-Performance Systems Based in Cypress, CA, we focus on engineering and manufacturing cleaner, greener power resources. Our products harvest and use energy safely for our ecosystem, servicing the Oil & Gas as well as Defense Industries with pumps, generators, and TurboExpanders.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Evaluate customer/project requirements and select appropriate topologies for DC/AC and DC/DC applications.
Lead design engineering for power electronics products, covering all essential engineering analysis from initial planning through study, design, and test.
Lead, design, develop and test advanced power electronics such as converters and inverters using medium to high power switching components (hundreds of kW).
Select active semiconductor switching devices and passive components (capacitors, inductors, transformers, etc.) for converter power circuits.
Lead verification testing on new designs and products.
Analyze switching and transient behavior of devices to determine limits, proper gating, and operation.
Perform design analysis including modeling, simulation, and control loops.
Optimize designs for efficiency, density, and cost.
Conduct design reviews and follow NPI process.
Perform hands‑on lab work building and debugging prototypes.
Perform electrical characterization, design validation, and qualification.
Introduce the product into production.
Provide technical support for production and field product issues.
Lead projects and collaborate in cross‑functional teams.
Prepare invention disclosures to protect intellectual property.
Mentor junior engineers.
Lead the activities and collaboration with contractors to outsource project tasks, track progress per project schedule, and report to management.
Required Skills, Experience, Education, And Abilities
BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering with focus on power electronics and +8 years of industry experience (PhD is a plus).
Strong understanding of power inverters operation and design.
Strong understanding of 3‑phase power systems.
Strong debugging skillset for power electronics circuits.
Experience with space vector, sinusoidal, and/or discontinuous PWM schemes.
Strong knowledge of digital, analog, and power electronic circuits design, test, and debugging.
Experience with power electronics test equipment (scope, DC/AC electronics load, DC/AC power sources, current and voltage probes).
Experience with SiC and GaN devices‑based power converter design.
Strong circuit simulation experience (Matlab Simulink / PLECS / LTSpice).
Desired Skills And Experience
Perform power electronic circuit design (create schematic symbols and layout footprints, design schematic and layout, and create BOM) in Altium.
Magnetics design and optimization.
High‑frequency magnetics design knowledge.
Ability to drive, understand, and adhere to product roadmaps, define new platforms, and extend products for power inverters (DC/AC).
Ability to prepare test reports, conclude the outcome of test results, provide the next steps in test plan, and present to management.
Create high‑density PCB layout with noise and EMI mitigation.
