Austin Industries has an outstanding opportunity for a Contractor Role as a
Network Engineer I
at its corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas. The role focuses on managing and maintaining the organization’s network infrastructure—both on‑premises and cloud—ensuring performance and security, and supporting various IT projects. The position also involves documenting existing network processes and procedures and helping identify and fill gaps. Note: This position does not include health, dental, or other benefits due to contracting status.
Responsibilities
Review, update, create, and maintain network-related documentation
Maintain computer networks, including routers, switches, wireless access points, and other physical hardware
Install and configure network equipment
Assist the Cybersecurity team with creating firewall rules and updating virus protection software and data security systems to keep data and communications protected as needed
Set up monitoring of network devices using SolarWinds to improve network performance
Troubleshoot, resolve, and communicate networking issues to employees and management
Maintain current knowledge and understanding of networking and network security best practices to offer optimal performance and protection to company systems
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Experience with wireless controllers, firewalls, IDS/IPS, web filtering, network access control, and cloud security platforms is preferred.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex, multi-layered issues.
Excellent communication, leadership, and project management abilities.
Dependability, punctuality, customer service orientation, and attention to detail.
Strong priority management and time‑management skills.
Strong critical thinking and detail orientation.
Exceptional customer service skills with a focus on building and maintaining positive internal and external relationships.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a similar field.
At least one year of experience in network or network security engineering, including enterprise network design, WAN connectivity, IPv4 subnetting, dynamic routing protocols, Cisco and Aruba device management, cloud network architecture, and troubleshooting.
Valid Cisco CCNA/CCNP or Aruba certification.
May occasionally travel to remote job sites or office locations as needed.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
Dexterity to handle small components and tools.
