ER Tech - Emergency Room - Full Time 12 Hours Nights (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM) (Union, Non-Exempt) *Up to $2500 Sign On Bonus*
The University of Southern California Arcadia Hospital is seeking a full-time Emergency Room Technician for 12‑hour night shifts (7:00 PM–7:30 AM). This union, non‑exempt position offers up to $2,500 sign‑on bonus.
Essential Job Functions and Core Responsibilities
Accountable to the shift lead RN for daily work assignments and to the Nursing Manager/Director for overall work performance.
Assist RN in turning, positioning and ambulating patients; prepare patients for examination; set up and assist in suturing, immobilization, cast application, splinting, dressing and other procedures; assure patient privacy at all times.
Assume responsibility for own professional development and practice.
Display professional commitment and support the unit team by promoting unity and teamwork, maintaining a positive attitude and positive working relationships.
Obtain urine specimens from patients and correctly identify the specimen per policy and procedure.
Organize, monitor and maintain availability of supplies, oxygen tanks, emergency supplies; keep accurate inventory of essential equipment and instruments; keep utility rooms and hallways organized and free from clutter; notify Biomed of broken equipment for repair and maintenance; utilize equipment tracking log for equipment leaving the department.
Perform 12‑Lead EKG competently and timely; place leads accurately and utilize equipment according to standards, policy and procedures; send tracing to Cardio‑Diagnostics and place a copy in the patient’s chart.
Participate in the organization‑wide Performance Improvement Program through orientation, education, departmental and interdepartmental quality control, performance improvement, and quality planning activities.
Stock, organize and set up patient rooms; ensure room, bed and bedside table are clean and free of clutter, waste or contamination before placing a new patient.
Transport patients for admission, procedure and discharge by gurney or wheelchair.
Work with the Triage Nurse in the Triage Tech role to facilitate patient flow through the department; demonstrate Next Generation of Care attributes when dealing with internal and external customers to enhance patient satisfaction; remain in a greeter role when not assisting a patient.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent (Required).
Minimum of one year recent experience in an acute care hospital or Emergency Room (Preferred).
Previous acute experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
Must obtain current California State phlebotomy certification within six months of hire; out‑of‑state phlebotomy certification will be accepted pending California certification within the first six months.
Must have EMT certification.
Must complete and maintain BLS certification.
Obtain or possess current Management of Assaultive Behavior certification; can obtain within six months of hire.
Pay Transparency The hourly rate range for this position is $21.00 – $25.95.
