Scrap Metal Buyer – Automotive Scrap & Parts Specialist
Gold Auto Parts Recyclers (GAPR) is a trusted leader in automotive recycling and industrial scrap processing. We partner with manufacturers, body shops, salvage yards, and dealerships to responsibly collect, process, and manage scrap metal and end‑of‑life automotive materials. We are expanding our buying team and seeking a knowledgeable, motivated Scrap Metal Buyer who specializes in automotive scrap and parts. Position Summary
The Scrap Metal Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and purchasing automotive scrap metal, components, and salvage parts. This role requires strong industry knowledge, negotiation skills, and the ability to build lasting relationships with suppliers while ensuring profitability and compliance with company standards. Key Responsibilities
Identify, evaluate, and purchase automotive scrap metal, engines, transmissions, catalytic converters, and vehicle components. Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers including auto shops, salvage yards, dismantlers, and industrial accounts. Perform on‑site inspections of materials to determine grade, quality, and weight. Monitor market pricing, commodity trends, and competitive conditions to ensure accurate and profitable buying decisions. Negotiate pricing and contracts while maintaining margins and meeting company targets. Coordinate inbound logistics, pickups, and deliveries with dispatch and yard operations. Ensure all purchases meet company, environmental, and safety compliance requirements. Maintain detailed purchase records, weights, grades, and supplier histories. Represent the company professionally and promote its values and services within the industry. Requirements
2–5 years of experience in the scrap metal, automotive recycling, or salvage industry (buying experience preferred). Strong understanding of ferrous and non‑ferrous metals, automotive components, and scrap grading standards. Knowledge of market pricing, ISRI categories, and commodity trends. Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship‑building skills. Ability to travel locally to supplier sites; valid driver’s license required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in outdoor/yard environments when needed. Detail‑oriented with strong record‑keeping skills. Self‑motivated, reliable, and able to work independently. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in catalytic converter identification and grading. Existing supplier contacts within the automotive scrap industry. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
