Process Modeling Engineer, Cathode Advanced Manufacturing
Tesla's Cathode team is looking for a highly motivated Process Modeling Engineer to work on a critical challenge facing the world's energy transition – Battery Cathode Materials. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Tesla's world‑class manufacturing facilities. As a member of the design team, you will develop and maintain advanced physics‑based models of cathode materials manufacturing equipment and use the modeling results to optimize equipment design, setup, and control performance. You will also execute the design of experiments to gather relevant data to train, validate, and test model accuracy. What You'll Do Perform advanced CAE simulations to evaluate and enhance specific design attributes and manufacturing processes. Develop and create multi‑physics computational models to solve complex problems such as drying, calcination, and multiphase fluid mixing with a solid understanding of heat transfer, mass (moisture) transfer, and fluid mechanics. Provide modeling support through design progression and evolution with multidisciplinary engineering teams guided by analyses and simulations. Conduct lab, pilot, and production experiments and tests to validate and improve the model. Document and proactively share simulation and analysis tools and results across engineering partners. What You'll Bring Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, or equivalent experience. 2+ years of experience in research or manufacturing environments, with demonstrated expertise in CAE model development and implementation. Experience in developing and analyzing Computational Fluid Dynamics models (Ansys Fluent, Altair AcuSolve, STAR CCM+, COMSOL, and/or similar CFD software). Experience in validation of computational models with lab/pilot scale experiments. Experience creating custom numerical/analytic models from physics fundamentals. Demonstrated talent for analyzing thermal and/or multi‑physics systems and conceiving design solutions to complex engineering challenges. Experience in developing and analyzing DEM (Discrete Element Method) models a plus. Experience in developing and analyzing Finite Element Analysis models (Abaqus, Ansys Mechanical, COMSOL, and/or similar FEA software) a plus. Experience in MATLAB, Python, or equivalent tools for modeling and analysis. Compensation and Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full‑time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Aetna PPO and HSA plans – two medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction. Family‑building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits. Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans with $0 paycheck contribution. Company‑paid HSA contribution when enrolled in the high deductible Aetna plan with HSA. Healthcare and dependent care FSA. 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits. Company‑paid basic life, AD&D, short‑term and long‑term disability insurance. Employee Assistance Program. Sick and vacation time (flex time for salary positions) and paid holidays. Backup childcare and parenting support resources. Voluntary benefits including critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance. Weight loss and tobacco cessation programs. Tesla Babies program. Commuter benefits. Employee discounts and perks program.
