Job Description Zachry Group is currently looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer with Fire Protection Design experience to join our talented Mechanical Department. This is a great opportunity to get involved with exciting and challenging projects with customers in the Power and Energy and Chemical Industries.
Responsibilities
Lead the Detailed Design of Underground and Above Ground Fire Protection Systems for Industrial Engineering Services and EPC projects.
Execute Fire Water System studies and prepare reports.
Prepare Fire Water Equipment specifications and perform bid and vendor document reviews.
Gather field information and witness fire water pump and flow tests.
Assist with proposal preparation by preparing man‑hour estimates.
Prepare weekly status reports and attend team and customer meetings.
Support the Detailed Design of HVAC and Plumbing Systems for Industrial Applications.
Requirements
Ten plus years of fire protection detailed design experience for industrial applications.
Experience working directly with the client on setting design requirements and conducting design reviews.
Experience working with NFPA and the International Fire Code.
Experience with troubleshooting of existing fire water protection systems.
Experience with fire protection design permitting with local authority having jurisdiction.
Experience working on EPC projects with fire protection.
Preferred Qualifications
HVAC or Plumbing detailed design knowledge is preferred.
PE Preferred.
Experience using AFT Fathom software to perform hydraulic analysis.
Strong attention to detail and capable to perform detailed technical document and drawing checking.
Position requires significant exposure to vendor document review, detailed assessment of vendor design accuracy and specification compliance.
Good Communication Skills (Active Listening, Verbal and Written).
Physical Demands Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, video chat and software systems. Position may include visits to construction sites and industrial facilities requiring mobility (on ground and at heights) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hardhat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and work boots.
Work Environment Employee will work in multiple environments including an office, warehouse and in a trailer or building on construction sites. On construction sites, noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.
