Shop Supervisor - Operations

About The Job As an integral member of our team, you will play a pivotal role, being a highly motivated individual with a strong passion for continuous improvement to lead daily operations and manage personnel within our factory. You will oversee the flow of both new capital equipment and after-sales service items through the shop, ensuring timely delivery, production reliability, and adherence to quality standards, contributing to the overall success and growth of our organization. This is an on‑site opportunity located in Newburyport, MA.
As a Part Of The Team, You Will
Manage daily production activities to meet delivery schedules and quality targets.
Monitor production progress versus plan and make necessary adjustments to achieve on‑time delivery.
Apply ALPS (Alfa Laval Production System) methodologies, including DMAIC problem‑solving, to resolve operational issues and drive continuous improvement.
Lead the implementation of ALPS and DSB (Digital Status Board), serving as the communication link between the factory/site and the ALPS Central Team (ALPS CET).
Promote cross‑training across machining, welding, and assembly work cells to enhance workforce flexibility and operational reliability.
Ensure all equipment is properly operated and maintained to support production goals.
Enforce safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment for personnel and equipment.
Conduct staff performance reviews and support employee development.
Collaborate with management to provide feedback and develop strategies for workflow optimization.
What You Know
High School Diploma or GED. Associate’s degree or higher is preferred. Vocational training is a plus with relevant experience.
Proficient in using MS Office, Excel, Access, Power BI.
Metal fabrication experience.
Production shop environments.
Original equipment manufacturing, strong background in metal fabrication including machining, welding, and mechanical assemblies.
Ability to foster change management within a team.
Must be comfortable and skilled at communicating technical information directly with shop employees.
Must have a high level of attention to detail.
Proven experience as a Shop Supervisor or in a similar leadership role.
Strong understanding of workflow optimization and lean manufacturing principles.
Solid knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
Experience working with ERP manufacturing software.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
LSS Green Belt certification or higher.
Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
