Opportunity Our engineering team is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the continued growth of our electrical engineering practice in the Buildings (new construction and existing building), DER, and Data Center sectors. In this role, you will develop, sell, and lead the delivery of complex projects while also growing the team and serving as a thought leader and subject‑matter expert for the company.

Lead delivery of complex projects for specific offerings/verticals/clients.

Lead development with internal and external partners of best‑in‑class design delivery.

Act as a thought‑leader and subject‑matter expert, representing McKinstry as a respected name in the industry.

Lead strategic Engineering & Design group initiatives.

Engage in all aspects of business development and sales.

Develop and build strong customer relationships.

Build and execute on appropriate sales and proposal strategies.

Grow the electrical team and support recruiting by organizing and leading interviews for higher‑level positions.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

Four‑year college degree required; master’s degree or other advanced degree preferred.

Professional Engineering License required.

Minimum 18+ years of overall professional experience.

Project Management experience: 10+ years.

People Management experience: 10+ years.

Demonstrated proficiency in design of complex power and building systems (generator plants, medium voltage distribution, UPS, lighting, fire alarm, grounding).

Familiarity with industry‑standard software (Revit, SKM, ETAP, Easy Power, etc.) and studies such as load flow, fault calculations, Arc Flash, overcurrent coordination, duct bank, harmonic studies.

Strong public speaking ability.

Demonstrated executive presence.

Proven team leadership capabilities.

Strategic thinking and decision‑making skills.

The pay range for this position is $157,900 – $240,100 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package.
