Role We are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer experienced in designing, operating, analyzing, and maintaining electrical systems that support central plant operations including power distribution, switchgear, motor control systems, protection schemes, controls, and energy efficient operation of utility equipment. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and optimizing existing building systems and designs to enhance performance, energy efficiency, and energy resilience. Your expertise will play a pivotal role in identifying opportunities for improvement to maximize the functionality of diverse building systems.

Key Responsibilities

Evaluate, analyze, and optimize existing building systems and designs.

Identify opportunities for improvement and develop projects to enhance resilience and efficiency.

Conduct root‑cause analysis for electrical failures and prepare detailed reports, including findings, recommendations, and potential cost savings.

Perform acceptance testing and periodic maintenance testing (infrared scans, insulation resistance, breaker timing tests).

Implement and integrate electrical systems with building automation systems.

Ensure compliance with NFPA 70, NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards and relevant codes.

Stay updated on advancements in electrical/energy‑efficient technologies and regulations.

Communicate findings to clients and stakeholders and prepare formal presentations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Power distribution and infrastructure, specifically in medium and low voltage distribution systems.

Expertise with generators, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, panelboards, motors, pumps, compressors, and fans.

Knowledge of controls and automation integration.

Ability to conduct detailed evaluations of electrical systems both in the field and through drawings, single‑line diagrams, and schematics.

Project management skills to develop plans, scopes, budgets, and technical specifications.

Root‑cause analysis for electrical failures.

Familiarity with testing methods such as infrared scans and insulation resistance.

Strong understanding of NFPA 70, NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards.

Experience identifying and addressing energy waste and inefficiencies.

Strong data analysis and communication skills.

Location Washington, DC with potential for travel up to 20‑30%.

Required Education, Certifications, and Experience

Four‑year electrical engineering degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience working with building and site electrical systems.

Two‑year technical degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience working with electrical systems.

U.S. citizenship and ability to pass a National Agency Check or SF‑85P (NACI).

Desired Qualifications and Experience

Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or other relevant certifications (e.g., NET, NICET).

Experience working within the Department of Defense.

Experience conducting energy audits.

Experience with microgrids and/or solar/battery energy storage systems.

Experience performing life‑cycle cost analyses.

Ability to prepare and present formal multimedia presentations.

Ability to train others.
