Senior Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer

The company has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) powered technology stack purpose‑built for commercial trucking and the public sector. The company delivers freight daily for its customers across the southern United States using its autonomous technology. In 2024, Kodiak became the first known company to publicly announce delivering a driverless semi‑truck to a customer. Kodiak is also leveraging its commercial self‑driving software to develop, test and deploy autonomous capabilities for the U.S. Department of Defense.
We are seeking a Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Mountain View, CA. The successful candidate will combine deep design knowledge with a strong on‑the‑line presence. Projects include bringing next generation designs into production and improving on existing designs. This position will be impactful to scaling up manufacturing for Kodiak. Frequent travel and on‑call support is required.
In this role, you will
Advise team on design‑for‑assembly (DFA) and design‑for‑manufacturing (DFM) considerations
Assist in development of manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM)
Release design documents to manufacturing through PLM software (Arena)
Design mechanical systems in CAD software (SolidWorks)
Such as assembly tools and fixtures
Create content for work instructions, such as CAD graphics
Participate in first article inspections (FAI) and new product introduction builds (NPI) on assembly lines
Includes travel to various locations within USA (Est. 25–50% of time)
Collect and document feedback from contract manufacturers and facilitate cross functional design improvements accordingly
Troubleshoot production and field quality issues, driving root cause and corrective actions
Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing teams to revise designs with a focus on cost optimization
What you’ll bring
BS or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering
5+ years of experience developing assemblies for production and facilitating their construction at scale with contract manufacturers
Relevant processes include: mechanical assembly, CNC milling, sheet metal bending, welding, and wire harnesses fabrication
Experience with 3D mechanical CAD (SolidWorks preferred, CATIA, NX, etc.)
Experience with PDM and PLM (Arena and ePDM preferred, Teamcenter, etc.)
Strong problem‑solving skills and comfort being hands‑on at the manufacturing line
