Marine Engineer – San Francisco – City Cruises Hornblower
Salary range: $36.00 per hour.
City Experiences is seeking a Marine Engineer for our operation in San Francisco. This position is eligible for benefits.
About You This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody Hornblower's RESPECT Service System.
About The Opportunity The successful Engineer will be a hands‑on team member at all levels of the Engineering department. They will be responsible for all aspects and phases of engineering projects from start to finish, including formulating hypotheses, controlling variables, designing tests, gathering data, recommending options, and ensuring completion. Expected to show leadership within the department and demonstrate a calm and positive reaction to all engineering challenges. Must be able to independently fabricate new parts and solutions from scratch, and check and verify work to ensure completion to company and industry standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Mastery of all duties & responsibilities of the Marine Mechanic position.
Lead and perform all diesel engine repairs across the company and fleet.
Recommend and install new systems and novel solutions.
Repair and replace all pilothouse electronics. Diagnose and repair vessel media systems.
Sserve as liaison between company and outside contractors.
Rebuild and maintain all company pump and pump systems, alignment & coupling included.
Apply working knowledge of all industry standard engineering tools and techniques.
Perform OEM‑level craftsmanship of parts and system design.
Project management, time management, decision making, and accurate reporting.
Mentor Marine Mechanics, ensuring projects resolved quickly and smoothly.
Mastery of Hybrid Propulsion Systems.
Competent electrical troubleshooting and repair.
Familiarity with all department engineering needs including Alcatraz Island, Pier 33, Yard Periods, Special Projects.
Interpret laboratory test data and report summarized results or issues to management.
Ensure completion of all logs and tasks reliably and accurately.
Learn new skills and information as needed to problem‑solve.
Organize workload effectively.
Maintain tools and workspace clean and operational; perform maintenance on tools when applicable.
Mastery of pipe, pipefitting, and fluid control systems.
Ensure all engineering systems stay on or ahead of best practice maintenance schedules.
Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
2 years of industry experience.
Functional understanding of electricity and relevant safe industry practices.
HAZWOPER certificate (40 hours).
Forklift certification.
CPR & First Aid certification.
Welding, brazing, soldering, metal work experience.
