Assistant Professor – Physics at The City University of New York (Brooklyn College)

Faculty Vacancy Announcement Brooklyn College invites applications for a full‑time tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Physics, starting August 2025. The department offers B.S. and B.A. in physics and two years of a coordinated engineering program. Current faculty research focuses on experimental and theoretical/computational condensed matter physics, including semiconductor materials, battery technologies, magnetic materials, and quantum liquids and glasses. Faculty participate in the CUNY Graduate Center doctoral program and can involve graduate and undergraduate students in research activities through Tow Mentoring and the NIH‑funded U‑RISE program.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate, master’s, and/or doctoral courses.

Develop and maintain an externally funded research agenda.

Advise, mentor, and train undergraduate and graduate students.

Participate in college, department, and university committees and other service commitments.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, Materials Science, or a closely related field.

Postdoctoral research experience.

Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, teaching, and student mentoring.

Ability to teach evening, weekend, face‑to‑face, and online courses.

Preferred Qualifications

AI literacy.

Demonstrated commitment to serving non‑traditional student populations.

Ability to collaborate within Brooklyn College, across CUNY, and with local research institutions.

Ability to utilize computational resources such as the Empire AI supercomputing center.

Compensation $79,598 – $102,017; salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. CUNY offers a competitive benefits package including health insurance, pension, paid parental leave, and savings programs.
