Hi

I’m Abhik, Ashby’s Co‑Founder and VP of Engineering. We’re looking for a versatile, persistent product engineer who’s not afraid to set up reusable building blocks across the stack and advocate for the time and space to do so. At Ashby, all our engineers ship features end‑to‑end at a high pace.

What Ashby gives you is the best of both early and growth‑stage environments: an almost‑no‑meeting culture with the product‑market fit and scale of a growing startup. We serve tens of thousands of daily users and work with customers such as Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake.

As a Product Engineer, you’ll take ownership of a large portion of one of our products and own projects end‑to‑end. You’ll write product specs, research competitors, create wireframes, and collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams.

Examples of work you’ll do

Designed and built automated interview scheduling, solving the “Calendar Tetris” problem.

Built a generalized declarative filter architecture that compiles to SQL in our backend.

Specced, designed, and implemented a feature allowing users to complete signing offers within Ashby.

What We’re Building We’re creating intelligent, powerful talent‑acquisition tooling that eliminates the burdens on recruiters, such as manual scheduling and coordination. Our goal is to give TA teams the highest standard of automation and insight, making the process faster and more reliable.

Why You Should Consider This Role

You’re not afraid to tackle any part of a technology stack, from front‑end to infrastructure.

You thrive on product and technical ambiguity and enjoy building powerful abstractions.

You balance speed with quality, understanding that a high‑quality product must evolve quickly.

You seek continuous improvement and welcome open feedback.

Collaboration and clear communication are strengths; you vet decisions with stakeholders and work cross‑functionally.

You create leverage by abstracting repetitive work and building reusable tools.

What You Shouldn’t Expect

Frequent heavy process or detailed sprint planning.

Focusing solely on technical delivery with limited ownership of product vision.

Heavy mentorship of junior engineers; our team consists primarily of experienced senior and staff engineers.

Strictly following a conventional tech‑lead or principal engineer role focused on reviews and management.

Engineering Culture

Minimal process with ownership over decisions usually made by product and design.

Natural collaboration and deliberate communication.

Investing in tools and abstractions that give us leverage.

Building a diverse team.

Interview Process

Introduction call with Hiring Manager (15–30 min).

Technical screen where we pair in our actual codebase (1 h).

Three non‑coding interviews focusing on product thinking, technical design, and infrastructure (approximately 3 h 15 min total).

First Three Months @ Ashby Your dev environment will be set up with a single script. You’ll push your first product change on day one and progressively work on more impactful features. Your manager will conduct 30‑, 60‑, and 90‑day reviews.

Technology Stack TypeScript (frontend & backend), React, GraphQL API, Node.js, Postgres, Redis.

Benefits

Competitive salary and equity.

10‑year exercise window for stock options.

Unlimited PTO.

A minimum of 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave.

Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget.

$100/month education budget.

Top‑tier health insurance for U.S. employees, fully covered; supplemental coverage for others.

Ashby provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce and welcome people from all backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and abilities.
