HDR is looking for a
Principal Management Consultant
to be part of our Resources Business Group Advisory Services team. The Consultant will work with our national Power, Industrial, and Technology practice leaders to serve existing clients and develop new clients globally.
Who You Are You are passionate about the complex intersection of energy, industrial, and data centers and enjoy finding solutions. This passion drives you to be consistently aware of national and regional market and policy trends. You enjoy and seek out meaningful client, vendor and colleague relationships and are driven to expand the depth and breadth of how you can partner with them to solve industry and client specific challenges. You enjoy developing energy and power strategies, solving load and generation interconnection challenges like bridging power, on-site generation, microgrids, and behind the meter solutions for private clients as well as utility/generation asset owners. You are skilled at navigating the complexities and nexus between power and data centers. You are a great listener and can translate challenges presented into road maps and tactical plans.
Primary Responsibilities The primary duties of the Principal Management Consultant will involve participating in power market and industrial topics through our Advisory Services offerings. You will thrive in the intersection of utilities, developers, and large technology customers, navigating constraints and identifying solutions for reliable, resilient, and affordable power and supporting infrastructure. The role involves advisory services to clients in a seller‑doer capacity. The position is supported by a deep bench of client managers and subject matter experts; the candidate must be well‑versed in existing power and industrial markets.
Specific responsibilities will include
Support HDR’s power, industrial and technology clients by providing advisory services.
As an advisory to clients, think strategically about their projects and potential funding and financing alternatives.
Coordinate the involvement and input of multi‑disciplinary planning teams.
Collaborate within the HDR matrix to provide input on strategic and tactical plans for new market entry and sustained growth with existing clients and markets.
Establish and maintain client relationships and engage in marketing, contractual, and development meetings.
Perform other duties as needed and have a specific interest in helping clients navigate processes and solve problems, regardless of the specific content.
Attend and participate in industry and client events to support HDR brand awareness.
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in power market and nexus between power and technology with rapid deployment requirements.
Experience supporting large demand customers such as data centers with infrastructure development.
Preferred experience working with a variety of client types including regulated and non‑regulated utilities, independent power producers, municipalities, and other public and private clients.
Interest and experience with industrial clients, challenges, and evolving technologies.
BS or BA degree in Engineering, Business, Sciences or related field.
Minimum 15 years of experience, including 3+ years in a development role in the power, industrial, and/or technology industry.
Knowledge of the electric power system, market participants, energy contracts and transactions, project finance, and utility‑scale and distributed power generation technologies.
Client development and management skills with a strong ability to maintain a high standard of quality.
Demonstrated ability to establish new business relationships, understand contracts, and maintain a strong industry network.
Ability to travel to in‑person meetings with clients.
Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills.
Advisory Services require gaining knowledge of new subjects, markets, and trends. Candidate needs to be curious and have the passion to continue learning.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Business Administration or closely related field.
A minimum of 10 years consulting experience and extensive related expertise.
Proficiency with MS Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Access and Outlook.
Excellent interpersonal skills and strong relationship, organizational and follow‑up skills.
