Senior Composite Design Engineer
– Axillon Aerospace (Baltimore, MD) Axillon Aerospace is searching for a Senior Composite Design Engineer to lead the design and development of composite products, primarily radomes for airborne applications. The engineer will select materials, design structures, coordinate tooling and process development, and oversee environmental testing in collaboration with electrical and manufacturing engineering teams. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Design or direct design of composite structures to meet customer specifications. Serve as lead engineer on development programs to assign tasks, manage schedules, and ensure completion within budget. Support team members during all phases of the design effort. Generate statements of work, coordinate with vendors, and review results for structural analysis, subcontracted tooling, and environmental testing. Interface with customers to answer questions, make presentations, provide product application data, and support program managers. Assist Business Development with technical expertise on sales calls and proposal development, including cost estimation. Provide engineering support to operations for root‑cause and corrective action activities and participate in the Material Review Board to disposition discrepant material. Qualification Requirements
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (four‑year college or university program). Graduate degree in Materials Engineering or equivalent may substitute for experience. Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a Design Engineer in a composites‑focused role. Experience with structural analysis and finite element modeling. Experience with mechanical and environmental testing for flight qualification. Preferred Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering with composite courses or a Master’s Degree in Engineering. Ten (10) years of experience as a Design Engineer in the aerospace or defense industry developing composite structures. Experience with various types of composite structures used in radomes. Experience preparing proposals, including technical portions, and cost estimation. Experience with CAD (SolidWorks or CATIA preferred). Physical Demands
Position involves sitting, standing, and/or walking. Requires ability to frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects; occasionally up to 20 pounds. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; ear protection occasionally required. Work performed in air‑conditioned office and factory environment. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
