About Bluebird Cancer Retreats:

Bluebird Cancer Retreats of West Michigan (BCR) provides hope, connection, and healing to those affected by cancer through retreats, support programs, and community partnerships. Our mission is to enhance the lives of those experiencing cancer by nurturing emotional and spiritual well‑being for cancer survivors, caregivers, and families across West Michigan.

Position Overview The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive and administrative leader of BCR, bringing strategic vision, operational excellence, and passion for our mission. The ED is responsible for ensuring BCR fulfills its mission through overall management of operations, finances, fundraising, programming, and marketing.

Key Responsibilities Strategic & Organizational Leadership

Serve as the chief executive and primary liaison to the Board of Directors.

Develop and execute annual strategic plans and budgets.

Oversee financial processes, including bookkeeping, insurance, and reporting in collaboration with the Board Treasurer.

Program Management & Mission Delivery

Provide vision and leadership for BCR’s retreats and support programs in collaboration with the Program Coordinator.

Ensure all programs align with BCR’s mission and uphold our standard of excellence.

Build and sustain relationships with local cancer centers, oncology practices, and community partners to recruit participants and volunteers.

Explore opportunities for new programming and partnerships to expand BCR’s reach and impact.

Develop and implement annual fundraising strategies to sustain and grow the organization’s operating budget.

Plan and execute two major fundraising events annually, engaging board members and community volunteers.

Lead donor relations and stewardship efforts, including major gifts, sponsorships, and community partnerships.

Collaborate with third‑party fundraising groups.

Identify and pursue grant opportunities aligned with BCR’s mission and programs.

Marketing & Community Relations

Serve as the primary spokesperson for BCR.

Lead marketing and public relations initiatives to raise awareness and engagement.

Manage production and distribution of marketing materials, including the website, digital newsletters (Mailchimp), appeal letters, brochures and event promotions.

Strengthen BCR’s digital presence through consistent and active social media management (Facebook and Instagram).

Foster and sustain strong relationships with local media (print, TV, radio) and community partners to elevate BCR’s visibility.

Administrative & Back‑end Operations

Manage daily operations and oversee management of office space, storage and equipment.

Supervise and support the Program Coordinator and other staff members, including goal setting and performance evaluations.

Coordinate board meetings, long‑range planning, and committee initiatives.

Recruit, orient, and engage new staff and board members, as necessary.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, communications, or a related field is preferred.

Minimum 3 to 5 years of leadership experience in nonprofit, small business or mission‑driven settings.

Strong financial management and budgeting experience.

Demonstrated success in program development and management.

Demonstrated success in fundraising and event planning.

Demonstrated success in donor and community relations.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with a diverse set of stakeholders.

Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and lead with integrity and impact.

Proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, social media management, and basic website administration.

A genuine passion for Bluebird’s mission of hope and healing.

Part‑time position averaging 25 to 30 hours per week with occasional evenings or weekends for events and retreats.

Office located in Grand Haven, MI.

Compensation This part‑time leadership role offers a salary commensurate with experience. While traditional benefits are not included, the position offers meaningful work, a flexible schedule, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of those affected by cancer.
