The Team The position sits within the newly consolidated Data and Analytics (D&A) organization supporting the U.S. Business of MetLife. U.S. D&A assists all business lines of MetLife’s U.S. business (about two‑thirds of MetLife Global by earnings) with everything related to data, analytics and data science, from data infrastructure, data governance, data engineering, data modeling, data analysis to business intelligence, data science and AI.
The Role MetLife is seeking an experienced AVP of Reporting for Disability product initiatives within its Group Benefits business. The objective of these initiatives is to responsibly expand MetLife’s market share in the Disability & Absence space and to improve employer and participant satisfaction with MetLife’s Disability offerings while meeting cost targets.
This individual will report to the Vice President of D&A for Absence, Disability & Life and collaborate with key stakeholders on the Disability product, U.S. Technology, and Sales & Service teams to ensure that the D&A reporting and dashboarding functions enable key Disability business goals and values.
The role will oversee D&A efforts to develop, deliver and continuously improve Disability reporting and dashboard solutions for customers and operational and service areas, supporting the Disability product’s business goals and the New Frontier strategy. The role is responsible for ensuring high‑quality, accurate and timely reporting solutions, evolving the function beyond delivery to generate actionable insights that drive business outcomes and enhance client experience. The role also partners with Data Operations and Data Platforms teams, upholding reporting resilience and providing production support.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage the backlog for Disability reporting and dashboarding in the ADM model, in collaboration with Disability business and U.S. Tech leadership.
Oversee the delivery of Disability‑aligned reporting solutions in the ADM model, including standard and customized reports, dashboards and data feeds.
Drive substantial automation of the reporting process via AI and self‑service enablement.
Partner with Data Ops and Data Platform teams to respond to incidents affecting Disability reporting and data pipelines, including support for customer impact analysis, mitigation steps, remediation steps, and root‑cause and permanent fixes.
Regularly review reporting inventory for consistent usage and relevance in the Data Reporting pillar, adding reporting hygiene, enhancements and performance optimizations to the backlog.
Establish and enforce governance standards for reporting inventory across internal and external stakeholders, including ownership, SLA definitions, change controls, notification protocols and usage monitoring.
Oversee intake of reporting requirements tied to new business initiatives, evaluating downstream impacts and coordinating testing and validation activities with business and tech partners.
Co‑develop and execute reporting delivery for Disability, aligned with business objectives.
Stay current with changes in the Absence & Disability market and federal/state legislation, recommending proactive solutions within reports and dashboards.
Monitor emerging Azure technologies and suggest solutions based on new capabilities.
Participate in strategic planning and goal setting as a vital member of the extended Disability leadership and governance team, building strategic partnerships with key business, technology and other leaders.
Lead cultural transformation from a reporting‑focused team to an insights‑driven mindset, developing training programs for domain knowledge and communication skills and redesigning performance metrics to emphasize business impact and stakeholder satisfaction.
Implement best‑practice lean‑agile governance routines to engage cross‑functional executives and stakeholders in ongoing business management and program‑level decision‑making.
Drive global team integration across U.S., India‑based and consulting resources, fostering a consistent culture and performance standards, and design career development paths for high‑potential talent.
Proactively identify and propose data‑driven solutions to business challenges, advancing the analytics organization beyond traditional service provider to become a strategic innovation partner.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related quantitative field (or equivalent B.S. with continuing education).
15+ years of progressive experience in data analytics leadership.
10+ years of insurance business experience, or equivalent complexity in consumer financial services.
10+ years’ experience in Data and Analytics delivery (Business Intelligence, database, ETL, MS Azure, advanced analytics systems).
Expertise in Business Intelligence, including creating and maintaining custom and standard reporting and dashboard packages; proficiency in Tableau, PowerBI, Cognos or similar.
Expertise in data engineering, data governance, and Data/ML Ops; proficiency in SQL and one or more data pipeline development/ETL/ELT tools (Informatica, SSIS, Spark, Talend, Kafka).
Proven track record of leading data & analytics teams and delivering business value through creative data solutions while interacting with many stakeholders in a complex organization.
Experience with reporting automation and self‑service to create efficiencies.
Excellence in stakeholder management and executive communication.
Understanding of legacy insurance platforms and modernization initiatives.
Experience with employee benefits plans is a plus.
Experience with Hadoop and MS Azure is a plus.
Location This position can be based at our Cary, NC corporate headquarters, NYC or the Bridgewater, NJ office. The role is a hybrid schedule with three days per week in the office.
Location Expectation:
Hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
Expected Salary Range:
$185K to $215K. This role may also be eligible for annual short‑term incentive compensation and stock‑based long‑term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to applicable plan terms.
