FLSA Status: Exempt (does not accrue overtime). Bargaining Unit: AFT/Continuing Education Faculty. Range: (na).

The San Diego Community College District accepts applications for adjunct positions for all campuses and continuing education centers on a continuous basis, but this does not guarantee immediate openings. Accepted candidates are added to the adjunct pool for potential assignments in upcoming semestral terms. The pool is purged approximately one year after submission.

Part‑time/temporary faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse adult student body. Applicants should live within commuting distance to San Diego. Assignments may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off‑campus classes.

Major Responsibilities

Primary duties related to curriculum and teaching; assignment may include lecture and lab classes. Adjunct instructional faculty are required to be available to students outside of class.

Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.

Maintain professional conduct and ethics.

Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.

Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part‑time/temporary faculty member.

Teach all scheduled classes.

Maintain accurate records.

Provide quality instruction, create and maintain an environment that emphasizes teaching and learning, and encourage free discussion of ideas, interests, and issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught.

Associate degree and at least six years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught.

Possession of a full‑time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matter.

Equivalent credentials.

Desired Qualifications

Certification by the American Board of Opticianry or equivalent.

Certification by the National Contact Lens Examiners or equivalent.

Licenses Full‑time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matter.

Employment Conditions Selected candidate must complete the following prior to employment:

Submit official college transcripts.

Provide certificate of tuberculosis exam, renewed every four years.

Have fingerprints taken by Live Scan at district expense before first day.

Present original documents proving eligibility to work in the United States.
