Summary Position Highlights: The Armed Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, visitors, and guests. This position is responsible for responding promptly and effectively to emergency situations, including active threats and alarm activations, while enforcing institutional policies such as the weapons-free campus. The officer conducts regular security patrols, monitors surveillance systems, and investigates incidents to uphold safety standards. Additionally, the role involves assisting with calls for medical aid, managing sensitive situations like employee termination and prisoner security, and providing exceptional customer service by supporting screening processes, access control, and visitor assistance. This position demands vigilance, sound judgment, and the ability to manage diverse security-related tasks with professionalism and care.

Responsibilities

Respond to emergency situations, particularly high-risk events such as armed threats or active shooter incidents, as well as disturbances and escalated incidents involving patients, visitors, staff, and guests.

Conduct regular security patrols and monitor camera systems to ensure compliance with regulations and secure premises.

Ensure all security-sensitive areas are properly secured.

Conduct investigations and write reports on incidents including criminal, slip and fall accidents, workplace violence, employee misconduct, and traffic crashes. Proficiency with security tools (firearm, taser, handcuffs) and security systems (cameras, alarms, access control).

Credentials and Qualifications:

High School Diploma.

FL Driver’s License (must obtain Florida driver’s license within six months).

Florida Class D Security Officer License (must obtain within 90 days of hire).

Florida Class G Security Officer License (must obtain within 90 days of hire).

Axon Taser certification (must obtain within six months of hire).

AVADE Level II & III Self Defense & Defensive Control Certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire).

IAHSS Basic Certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire).

Basic Life Support BLS w/ CPR (must be obtained within six months of hire).

Stop the Bleed (must be obtained within six months of hire).

Preferred Experience:

Ten years of law enforcement experience or a combination of ten years of law enforcement and armed healthcare security experience, with at least five years in law enforcement.

Advanced training in defensive tactics, weapon retention, and disarming techniques.

Exceptional proficiency and experience in the safe and legal handling, maintenance, and deployment of duty firearms (pistols) and tasers.

Background in dignitary protection, surveillance operations.

Extensive camera, card access systems experience. Knowledge of Kronos and Accurint reporting for background investigations.
