Recovery Support Specialist II (Part‑time 16 hrs/schedule: Sunday & Monday 2 pm‑10 pm – Compass) Recovery Support Specialist II (RSS/II) provides comprehensive community‑based residential and support services to persons with mental health, intellectual, and addiction needs. The role involves hands‑on skill‑building interventions and supports individuals in achieving independence and well‑being while collaborating with Community Support Specialists, Case Managers, and the program to support person‑centered, strengths‑based, and culturally competent care.

Responsibilities

Participates in dual supervision between site supervisor and Continuum South‑Central Peer Services Manager.

Establishes rapport and a working relationship with clients.

Provides mentorship, role modeling, and prompting to enhance strengths and build upon skill deficits.

Provides face‑to‑face, hands‑on supportive assistance to help clients maintain community living.

Promotes clients’ strengths and abilities to improve socialization, recovery, and self‑advocacy, and supports development of natural supports and maintenance of community living skills.

Provides supportive companionship and problem‑solving discussions.

Engages clients in routine medical, social, wellness, and other community appointments as part of their recovery.

Works with and supports clients to achieve aspirations and goals, and participates in recovery planning as indicated in their Care Plan.

Develops individual recovery and/or wellness plans as indicated.

Assists clients to access community resources, travel planning, and transportation efforts.

Attends and participates in collaborative team and external community meetings as indicated.

Facilitates or co‑facilitates psycho‑educational groups as indicated.

Maintains client records and reporting documentation as required by the agency.

Attends and participates in monthly staff and supervision meetings.

Conducts regular apartment/house inspections and supports clients in maintaining overall cleanliness.

Coaches and mentors RSS interns during their practicum placements.

Mentors and serves as a lead RSS in programs where more than one RSS is present.

In collaboration with the Director of South‑Central Peer Services, co‑facilitates RSS self‑care and supervision groups.

Provides support and accountability during fidelity, quality, and licensing reviews.

Maintains a clean, well‑organized work environment and reports environmental concerns as identified.

Participates in upkeep and sanitation of common areas, kitchens, bathrooms, and other areas as identified.

Participates in Food Bank activities as assigned and applicable.

Participates in property upkeep and general office maintenance that supports workplace safety.

Completes other designated environmental tasks as assigned.

Adheres to policies and practices outlined in the staff handbook and program operations manual.

Consistently works in a respectful, constructive, and cooperative manner.

Upholds HIPAA and secures all necessary releases of information for outside communication.

Models culturally competent behavior when interacting with clients, providers, and fellow staff.

Maintains accurate electronic records and case files in accordance with programming, contractual, licensing, and accreditation requirements.

Adheres to the standards of the Council on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Participates in agency committee work when available or as permitted.

Completes all trainings required per program contract and agency policy.

Attends agency‑sponsored in‑services, outside trainings, conferences, and meetings to facilitate professional growth and ensure the quality of case‑management practices.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree or 60 credits toward a Bachelor’s degree preferred; minimum of one year employed as a Recovery Support Specialist I.

High school diploma or equivalent considered if accompanied by CT Recovery University Certification and a minimum of three years’ experience in a related behavioral health field.

First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification within 90 days of hire; ongoing certification required.

Valid Connecticut driver’s license and willingness to transport clients in a personal vehicle; reliable transportation and minimum required CT State automobile liability insurance required.

Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic record keeping.
