Save Job

Controls and Software Engineer 3 – Neon Aero Aerospace is at a turning point — costs are rising, supply chains are strained, and old ways of building can't keep up. At Neon Aero, we’re breaking that mold. We move fast, think big, and combine start‑up agility with aerospace expertise to design, build, and scale aircraft in ways the industry has never seen. Our team leverages automation, AI‑driven tools, and a fully connected digital backbone to accelerate innovation and reduce barriers to production. Here, you won’t just take a job — you’ll help reinvent how the world flies. If you’re ready to solve complex problems, push technology further, and work alongside some of the brightest minds in aerospace, this is your chance to make a real impact.

Why this Role Matters

Contribute to the full lifecycle of control algorithm development—from capturing requirements to modeling, implementing, and optimizing advanced strategies for vector control, position, speed, and torque regulation. Engineer robust system logic by developing state machines and power sequencing tailored to demanding aerospace applications.

Architect, implement, and validate system‑level control sequences, state machines, and safe power‑up/power‑down processes compliant with functional safety and system requirements.

Leverage MATLAB/Simulink to drive model‑based design, simulation, and rapid prototyping of both individual control loops and system‑level coordination logic.

Develop and verify communication protocols by creating Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for standards such as CAN, ARINC 825, and other aviation‑specific buses.

Bring designs to life in the lab through hardware‑software integration, hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing, and data‑driven performance optimization.

Support certification efforts by preparing detailed documentation, test plans, and artifacts that meet rigorous aerospace standards including DO‑254, DO‑178C, ARP4754, and ARP4761.

Collaborate across disciplines—working with systems, electrical, test, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration and product reliability.

Be hands‑on in the field, supporting product launches with troubleshooting, tuning, and validation to deliver flight‑ready solutions.

Maintain configuration control and traceability of simulation models and core algorithms to ensure lifecycle compliance and long‑term reliability.

What You’ll Bring

Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, and Python, with experience in system verification and validation.

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related field preferred; relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

In‑depth expertise in vector (field‑oriented) control, position control, speed control, and torque regulation for motors or actuators.

Strong knowledge of system sequencing, state machines, and safe power‑up/power‑down control methodologies.

Proven experience authoring Interface Control Documents (ICD) for communication protocols including CAN, ARINC, and related aviation or automotive buses.

Hands‑on experience with control integration and validation, including use of hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) systems, lab data analysis, and rapid prototyping tools.

Prior experience supporting certification or working on safety‑critical control systems within the aviation, automotive, or aerospace sectors is highly desirable.

Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with a record of robust, validated solutions in fielded products.

Self‑driven and proactive in taking project ownership, meeting deadlines, and achieving high standards.

Willingness and capability to collaborate across engineering disciplines to ensure product integration and success.

Commitment to maintaining quality, technical excellence, and compliance with all required processes and standards.

Why Join Us

Work alongside elite engineering talent and innovators from across aerospace and tech.

Be part of a team moving faster than the industry standard.

Shape solutions that are lower‑cost, autonomous, and scalable — the future of aviation.

Competitive compensation, including equity participation, growth opportunities, and full health benefits (health, vision, dental, 401(k)) designed to support you in and out of work.

This pay range is specific to the location where the role is posted. Final pay will depend on experience, skill level, and other job‑related factors.
