About the Fellowship The Appellate Litigation Clinic at Georgetown Law seeks applicants for a two-year fellowship in appellate advocacy, beginning in the summer of 2026. The fellow will work in collaboration with the Clinic Director, take the lead on litigating public‑interest appeals before federal courts of appeals and, on occasion, the U.S. Supreme Court, and represent indigent clients in a broad range of civil‑rights, criminal‑defense, habeas, and immigration cases.
The fellow will handle all aspects of an appeal, supervise student teams, and may argue at least one case before a federal appellate court. Former fellows have pursued careers in appellate advocacy, civil‑rights impact litigation, criminal defense, and academia.

Compensation & Benefits The salary for the fellowship will be $70,000 for the first year and $75,000 for the second year. Fellows will receive an LL.M. in Advocacy upon successful completion of the two‑year fellowship, participate in a year‑long teacher training course (Elements of Clinical Pedagogy), receive mentorship for academic scholarship, and have access to Georgetown Law’s full set of resources.
Qualifications
Commitment to public‑interest law
Demonstrated interest in appellate litigation
Enthusiasm for clinical legal education
At least one year of relevant experience beyond the J.D. (e.g., clerkship, government, or private practice)
Membership in a state bar. Fellows not members of the D.C. Bar must apply for admission no later than ninety days after commencement. The clinic will reimburse admission fees.
