Research Engineering Manager 2
to lead our
Analytical Chemistry team . This position serves as the department focal point for chemical and analytical laboratory testing supporting all Northrop Grumman programs. The position will be supporting the
Propulsion Systems Division
at our facility located in
Promontory, UT .
Role Description and Responsibilities The Research and Development Analytical Chemistry manager directs a high performing team of approximately 13 individuals who develop and implement chemical, physical and analytical methodologies supporting material characterization and process/production problem-solving for all programs, including internal R&D and environmental testing. The manager is also responsible to: mentor and bring out the best in each team member, help them meet and overcome challenges and progress in their careers, help them feel personal satisfaction in their accomplishments, and convey and implement department and corporate expectations.
Direct analytical methodology and maintenance tasks for team
Coordinate team tasks, budgets, and schedules with program managers, IR&D leadership, project engineers, and others in PS
Oversee team member workloads and task progression and completion
Mentor team members in personal growth and career development
Lead and document periodic formal and informal performance reviews and determine merits and promotions
Review and update standard work requirements and guidelines
Determine staffing requirements
Support initiatives of engineering leadership
Basic Qualifications
B.S. degree in an engineering or science discipline and 8 years experience, M.S. degree in an engineering or science discipline with 6 years experience, or a PhD. Degree in an engineering or science discipline and 4 years experience.
Experience with analytical laboratory instrumentation and techniques
Working knowledge and/or experience across multiple materials and process disciplines
Minimum 4 years experience leading teams and projects
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
Prior experience guiding and mentoring lower-level colleagues
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working with energetics, pyrotechnics, or solid propellant rocket motor materials.
Current active Security Clearance
Proven leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills
Prior experience in science/engineering functional management is a plus

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,100.00 - $208,700.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company paid holidays and paid time off.
