Scope of Research Postdoctoral positions in Viral and Cancer Immunology under the direction of Dr. Pablo Penaloza‑MacMaster, Center for Virology and Vaccine Research at BIDMC, located at the Harvard Medical School campus in the Longwood medical area.
Dr. Penaloza‑MacMaster’s recent work focuses on viral immunology, cancer immunology, and vaccine development, especially for coronavirus and HIV.
Improving vaccines against HIV and other viral infections, including coronaviruses.
Improving immune responses during chronic viral infections and cancers.
Candidate requirements: highly motivated, Ph.D. or equivalent, strong research experience in DNA cloning, transfection, protein expression, molecular biology techniques. Mouse handling experience desirable. Good communication skills highly encouraged. Submit CV and contact details for three referees to ppenaloz@bidmc.harvard.edu.
Primary Responsibilities
Abides by BIDMC institutional policies (health and safety, equality of opportunity, data storage and management).
Actively pursues research under PI supervision while developing skills for independent work.
Receives training and performs duties related to design, conduct, and evaluation of experiments.
Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under PI direction.
Develops expertise in lab skills, informatics, physics, or clinical research; gains proficiency with research tools and equipment; works more independently over the fellowship.
Generates new ideas that enhance current research; brings new expertise to the program.
Provides supervision of students and their projects when appropriate; teaching skills.
Engages in collaborative meetings with other research groups; attends and leads scientific seminars.
Identifies, acknowledges, and corrects deficiencies in own performance.
Under PI direction, pursues/ secures independent funding near the end of the fellowship.
Required Qualifications
Doctoral Degree or M.D.
0–1 year of postdoctoral research experience, academic or industrial lab experience, teaching assistantship, residency, or clinical duties beyond the qualifying doctoral degree.

Pay Range $60,320.00 – $90,001.60 USD (annual base salary). Compensation may vary with seniority, education, experience, certifications, location, responsibilities.
