The position provides assistance in the various areas of the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory departments. Responsibilities
Assists the pathologist or pathology assistant (PA). Performs frozen sectioning and staining within required turnaround time. Receives, registers, and accession specimens in the Laboratory Information System for Surgical Pathology and Cytology departments. Maintains inventory in the gross lab, cytology prep area, and autopsy suite. Prepares, labels, and stores chemicals for processing and staining. Cleans autopsy suite after procedures. Maintains cleanliness of laboratory work areas, sinks, refrigerators, centrifuges, stainers, equipment, and bench surfaces. Uses Cerner order entry, prints slide labels, and detailed worklists. Distributes slides to pathologists. Prepares specimens (surgical and cytology) for transport to Sinai following SOP and within time schedules. Packages specimens appropriately for transport, including special-request specimens (flow cytometry, FNA, etc.). Travels between Sinai Hospital and Northwest Hospital as required. Experience Required
