CNA is the market leader in providing Community Association Directors & Officers liability coverage and best‑in‑class claim service. We are seeking a dynamic self‑starter to join our team as a Complex Claims Consultant handling Directors & Officers claims for Community Associations.
The Complex Claims Consultant plays a critical role in managing and resolving D&O Community Association claims by evaluating coverage, assessing liability and damages, setting timely reserves, negotiating and settling claims, and directing litigation.
This individual contributor position works under general direction to manage claims with high complexity and exposure.
Position requires regular communication with insureds and offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule available in any location near a CNA office.
Job Description Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Manage an inventory of highly complex commercial claims, verifying policy coverage, conducting investigations, developing and employing resolution strategies, and authorizing disbursements within authority limits.
Ensure exceptional customer service by managing all aspects of the claim, interacting professionally, achieving quality and cycle time standards, and providing timely updates.
Verify coverage and establish timely and adequate reserves by reviewing policy language and partnering with coverage counsel.
Lead focused investigations to determine compensability, liability and covered damages using documents, recorded statements, and expert input.
Resolve claims by collaborating with internal and external partners to execute claim resolution strategies, including negotiating settlements and managing litigation.
Establish and manage claim budgets, authorizing expense payments and delivering high quality service efficiently.
Identify subrogation/salvage opportunities or potential fraud and refer to Claim, Recovery or SIU resources.
Maintain quality standards, ensuring all company protocols are followed and claims are resolved and paid promptly.
Keep senior leadership informed of significant risks and losses by completing loss summaries and preparing concise reports.
Maintain subject matter expertise and comply with state/local regulations by staying current on commercial insurance laws and trends.
Mentor, guide, develop and train less experienced Claim Professionals.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the commercial insurance industry, products, policy language, coverage, and claim practices.
Expert communication with policyholders, explaining coverage issues, litigation processes, and early resolution benefits.
Strong negotiation skills with a track record of resolving complex disputes creatively.
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Analytical and investigative mindset with critical thinking and sound business decision‐making.
Strong work ethic, time management and organizational skills.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment at high productivity levels.
Experience interpreting complex commercial insurance policies.
Ability to manage multiple shifting priorities.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn business software.
Ability to value diverse opinions and ideas.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. Juris Doctor preferred.
Typically a minimum six years of relevant experience, preferably in Professional Liability or Directors & Officers claims.
Must have or be able to obtain an Insurance Adjuster License within 90 days of hire where applicable.
Prior negotiation experience.
Professional designations are a plus (e.g., CPCU).
