This individual contributor role works under general direction to manage high exposure and complex litigation claims involving loss types such as sexual molestation, latent injury product hazards, social media/AI/video game addiction, pollution, PFAS/AFFF, and other mass tort general liability claims.
Responsibilities
Manage an inventory of highly complex commercial litigation with large exposures requiring a high degree of technical expertise and coordination.
Investigate and analyze policy language to recommend and prepare coverage determinations.
Ensure exceptional customer service by managing all aspects of the claim and interacting professionally with insureds, claimants, and business partners.
Provide timely updates and respond promptly to inquiries and requests for information.
Set and manage timely and adequate reserves considering coverage, liability, and damages.
Move claims to closure with independence and proactive claim handling while collaborating with internal and external partners to develop and execute a claim resolution strategy.
Keep leadership informed of significant risks and losses by projecting exposure and completing loss summaries and similar reporting.
Prepare and present claim status and evaluation to leadership.
Maintain subject matter expertise and ensure compliance with state/local regulatory requirements.
Mentor and train less experienced Claim Professionals.
Qualifications
JD preferred or bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience in claims handling.
Minimum six years of relevant experience, preferably in claim handling.
Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
Demonstrated analytical and investigative mindset with critical thinking skills.
Ability to negotiate complex settlements.
Experience interpreting general liability insurance policies and coverage issues including disputes related to number of occurrences, trigger, and allocation.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn business‑related software.
Ability to manage multiple and shifting priorities and work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
Benefits & Compensation The national base pay range for the Claims Consultant – Mass Tort role is $120,000 to $164,000. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and location.
