Microbiology Medical Technologist - Full Time - First Shift
Perform laboratory testing of biological specimens in an acute setting in any/all specialty areas using manual or automated techniques. Use independent judgment and cognitive skills to report timely and accurate laboratory results.
Base Pay Range $30.15/hr - $45.25/hr
Responsibilities
Perform, evaluate, and monitor laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated.
Monitor workflow and make necessary adjustments to complete work in an appropriate time frame.
Evaluate results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness, and follow prescribed policy in the reporting and notification of test results.
Perform and document calibration, maintenance and repair of instruments and equipment; recognize indicators of test and/or instrument malfunction, evaluate and implement appropriate corrections.
Perform, document and review quality control and quality assurance for improvement according to established protocol; evaluate quality control results and take corrective action when indicated.
Ascertain that specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing; collect specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol.
Provide general direction, training, competency review and technical assistance to medical laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff; assist in the development of education and training protocols; instruct students, residents and new team members as assigned.
Assist in improving the quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures, policies, and processes; ensure compliance with all accrediting agency standards, supporting CAP Regulatory requirements in an acute setting.
Perform internal and external proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples.
Perform specialty testing in areas including transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation and flow cytometry; support disease‑specific accreditations by meeting turnaround time goals.
Provide direct support and timely, accurate laboratory results for critical care departments such as the ED, ICU and OR during high‑acuity patient events, including transfusion services, attending codes, testing on irretrievable samples, tissue grinding and gram stains, mass casualty procedures and mass transfusion procedures.
Licenses & Certifications
Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or
Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC); to be obtained within 1 year, or
Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT); to be obtained within 1 year.
Degrees
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related field.

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include alternate site assignment.
