The Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC) of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an exceptionally talented, motivated, and creative Principal Defect Metrology Engineer/Sr Principal Defect Metrology Engineer position located at our Linthicum, MD facility.

The Advanced Technology Lab (ATL), part of Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC), located outside of Baltimore, Maryland, designs, manufactures, and tests semiconductor products for internal and commercial production customers as well as emerging technology programs. Northrop Grumman's ATL semiconductor foundry supports a range of production microelectronic devices (Silicon, Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, and Silicon Carbide) and provides leading‑edge technology development in Superconducting Electronics and SLCFET. Our devices enable a number of Northrop Grumman's ground‑based radars, avionic radars, and space systems.

Responsibilities

Maintain, existing, and develop new in‑line defect metrology recipes and techniques for defect inspection and review tools.

Assist with ongoing efforts to integrate in‑line defect metrology into our process flows.

Write and maintain process documentation.

Partner with vendors and equipment engineers to drive existing and future tools to meet foundry and program needs.

Support statistical process control (SPC), continuous improvement efforts, and the management and dissemination of metrology data.

This position is required to be fully on‑site.

Basic Qualifications - Principal Defect Metrology Engineer

Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or related technical discipline with 5 years of relevant experience; Masters with 3 years of relevant experience; PhD with 0 years of relevant experience.

General understanding of defect inspection and review tools (such as dark field, bright field, and scanning electron microscopes).

Basic knowledge of statistical process control.

Hands‑on experience with Si, GaAs, or other wafers.

1 year experience with semiconductor fabrication.

Ability to work in a cleanroom setting.

US citizenship required.

Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or related technical discipline with 8 years of relevant experience; Masters with 6 years of relevant experience; PhD with 3 years of relevant experience.

General understanding of defect inspection and review tools (such as dark field, bright field, and scanning electron microscopes).

Basic knowledge of statistical process control.

Hands‑on experience with Si, GaAs, or other wafers.

1 year experience with semiconductor fabrication.

Ability to work in a cleanroom setting.

US citizenship required.

Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Hands‑on knowledge and operation of defect inspection and review tools (such as dark field, bright field, and scanning electron microscopes).

Experience in lean manufacturing practices and structured problem‑solving methodology.

Experience working in a cleanroom setting.

Data analysis and visualization (JMP).

Experience utilizing KLA, AMAT equipment.

Experience coordinating with vendors.

Experience creating technical documentation.

Experience developing technical specifications for equipment procurement.

Active Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.

Primary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
