Job Description Ste fanini Group is looking for a
Senior Compute Engineer
who has in-depth knowledge of VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi, as well as experience with vSAN, NSX, VCF and vRealize. Prior experience with vSAN and VCF is mandatory for this role. Our colleague will be responsible for designing, implementing, and troubleshooting our client's virtual environment, as well as providing support to their virtual applications and systems. The Senior Compute Engineer will work closely with network, storage, and server teams to ensure optimal performance and availability of our virtualized resources. This job is only open to candidates located in Romania and is offered as an employment contract.
Key Responsibilities
Implement, maintain, and optimize VMware vSphere environments (ESXi & vCenter).
Perform ESXi and vCenter patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management using image-based baselines.
Troubleshoot complex issues across hosts, VMs, storage, and networking layers.
Manage VMware vSphere Distributed Switch (VDS), port groups, and related network constructs.
Configure and maintain vSAN clusters, disk groups, and storage policies; execute full cluster shutdown and power‑on procedures.
Diagnose vSAN health, performance, and object‑related issues.
Oversee VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) operations, including dashboard creation, reporting, and workload domain management.
Administer Aria Operations components, architecture, and troubleshooting.
Manage x86 server hardware (Dell & HPE), including IPMI/iDRAC/iLO configuration, firmware/driver lifecycle, RAID setup, and hardware troubleshooting.
Collaborate effectively within a matrix organization, balancing customer needs with company objectives.
Document processes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps for operational excellence.
Job Requirements
7+ years of professional experience in systems administration or engineering.
5+ years of hands‑on experience with VMware vSphere (ESXi & vCenter).
Strong knowledge of image‑based lifecycle and baseline management.
Solid understanding of vSAN architecture and VMware networking dependencies.
Proficiency in L2 networking fundamentals (VLANs, trunking, MTU, NIC teaming, port‑channel concepts).
Familiarity with multicast, IGMP, and vSphere networking.
Expertise in Dell and HPE server hardware management and deployment workflows.
English business proficiency; additional languages are an asset.
Strong ability to work within a matrix structure and manage project/service risks effectively.
Availability for global travel, if required.
Nice to Have Skills
Scripting experience (Python, PowerShell) for automation and integrations.
Familiarity with automation tools (VMware VCF Automation, Red Hat Automation Platform/AWX).
Understanding of infrastructure‑as‑code patterns and orchestration pipelines.
Certification Requirements
Certifications such as VMware Certified Professional, Data Center Virtualization, CCNA Data Center.
Familiarity with ITIL v3 or 4 would be advantageous.
