Job Description:

Position Title: Circulation and Computer Lab Manager/Staff Associate Department: Library Supervisor’s Title: Access Services Librarian Collective Bargaining Agreement: APA collective bargaining agreement Hours: 37.5 per week Salary Range: $70,000–$75,000, commensurate with experience Location: Morton R. Godine Library, Boston

The Circulation and Computer Lab Manager performs all circulation desk functions in the library and supports and maintains the computer lab located within the library.

Responsibilities:

Perform all circulation functions (charging/discharging materials, receipt of fines, processing overdue notices, patron record updates) and provide front‑line desk service.

Provide reference assistance and help patrons locate resources.

Open the library as scheduled, ensuring compliance with facilities procedures and timely service to patrons.

Assist the Public Services Team with training part‑time student employees in Public Services areas and support the Access Services Librarian with patron database assistance.

Provide computer lab technical assistance to patrons and instruction in use of hardware (e.g., scanners and printers) and software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office).

Train other staff in assisting patrons with use of the computer lab.

Install, maintain, and troubleshoot computer lab equipment and software, acting as liaison to the college department in charge of Technology.

Create and make available documentation and training materials for using equipment and software in the computer lab.

Collect statistical data for public services operations.

Collaborate on policy/procedure drafting and refining.

Identify and maintain general computer lab equipment and software as well as specialized equipment for patrons with disabilities.

Train patrons in use of equipment and support the Access Services Librarian in creating and maintaining alternative texts.

Act as a liaison to the Academic Resource Center to coordinate best practices for helping students.

Participate in library planning and decision making as part of the public services team.

Work on special projects as established during library strategic planning and perform other duties as assigned.

Assist with digital asset management projects in other library divisions (e.g., visual resources, archives).

Serve as primary back‑up for other public services support functions and secondary back‑up for other library operations; provide primary backup support for systems.

Promote the college's commitment to customer service by:

Building effective partnerships with co‑workers throughout the college by freely sharing information and providing assistance when needed.

Ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.

Maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, learning needs, and roles.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Minimum of one year experience working in a library, preferably in an academic setting; supervisory experience required.

Familiarity with library resources (e.g., EBSCO Discovery) and online library systems (e.g., FOLIO).

Desired:

Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.

Flexibility appropriate for a work setting, with a desire to participate in collaborative problem solving.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong customer service skills.

Knowledge of library research methods.

Experience managing, maintaining, scheduling, and supporting hardware and software in a networked public‑access Mac and PC computer lab in a library research, writing, and printing environment.

Knowledge of digital repository and digital asset management systems.

Knowledge of streaming media systems.

Art and design background.
