The VP, Assistant Treasurer supports the management of the Bank’s interest rate risk, funding, liquidity, investments, capitalization strategies, and overall treasury operations for a $40 billion+ balance sheet. This role involves assisting in the development and execution of financial strategies, policies, and procedures that enhance profitability while managing liquidity and interest rate risk in compliance with regulatory standards. The VP, Assistant Treasurer collaborates closely with senior management and the Board of Directors, providing insightful financial analysis, risk measurement, and reporting. The role also includes direct oversight of treasury personnel, ensuring operational efficiency and staff development. Day-to-Day Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in managing the Bank’s capitalization strategies, interest rate risk management strategies, funding, hedging, liquidity, and investment management policies aligned with organizational goals. Assist in managing the Bank’s interest rate risk exposure, including prepayable loans, investment securities, derivatives, and callable debt, using advanced risk measurement tools such as Quantitative Risk Management (QRM) software. Monitor and report on the Bank’s financial position, interest rate risk, liquidity status, and investment and debt portfolio performance to senior management and the Board. Contribute to the preparation and monitoring of the Bank’s financial plan, including forecasting loan volumes, funding activity, earnings performance, and capital adequacy. Assist with managing the derivatives portfolios to optimize earnings while minimizing counterparty and financial statement risks. Support the transfer pricing process related to retail loans and earning assets. Participate in complex financial analysis projects, including investment and hedging strategies, and debt management. Supervise and develop treasury staff, setting performance standards, providing training, and conducting evaluations. Ensure all treasury operations comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements, including FCA regulations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage with direct reports, senior management, regulators, and board members. Strong understanding of interest rate risk management principles, financial management, and accounting practices. Familiarity with capital management frameworks and the ability to evaluate the impact of strategies on NII and EVE. Strong analytical skills in developing financial forecasts and identifying key sensitivities. Ability to design and execute scenario analyses and stress tests to evaluate risk exposures under varying economic conditions. Proficient in financial modeling, risk simulation software, and advanced Excel skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience with financial forecasting, including building and interpreting forward-looking forecasting models, scenario design and stress testing in a treasury or risk management context.
