About the Role The Senior Estimator leads the estimating process for complex commercial construction projects. This role is responsible for conceptual budgeting, hard-bid proposals, subcontractor strategy, and mentoring junior estimators while partnering closely with operations and clients.
Responsibilities
Lead all phases of estimating from conceptual budgeting through final GMP or lump-sum proposals
Review design documents and develop comprehensive cost strategies
Perform and oversee quantity takeoffs for all major trades
Direct subcontractor solicitation, bid leveling, scope review, and buyout recommendations
Develop accurate conceptual, schematic, and design development budgets
Identify project risk, contingency levels, and pricing exposure
Lead value engineering and cost optimization efforts with design teams and owners
Prepare final estimate presentations and participate in client interviews when required
Coordinate closely with project managers during preconstruction and project handoff
Maintain historical cost data and benchmark pricing for future use
Mentor and review work of estimators and preconstruction staff
Participate in preconstruction scheduling and constructability reviews
Qualifications
5+ years of commercial estimating or preconstruction experience
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related discipline preferred
Strong background in interior renovations, adaptive reuse, and technical commercial projects
Proven ability to lead competitive bids and negotiated GMP estimates
Advanced proficiency with estimating platforms, takeoff software, and Excel
Strong understanding of subcontractor markets and trade sequencing
Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills
