Position Overview Responsible for assisting physicians with surgical procedures, patient care, post-surgical care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinic services. Conveys a positive image of the clinic.

Essential Functions

Check daily schedule and assist in organizing patient flow.

Assist Physician with various surgical procedures.

Perform rounds on patients that are post-surgical or have been admitted to the hospital for consultation.

Cover weekend and evening calls as needed.

Interview patients to gather medical and surgical history to present to the Physician. Measure vital signs including blood pressure, pulse and temperature as needed. Document all information in the patient’s chart.

Give instructions to patients as directed by the Physician.

Take phone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls.

Refill medication requests from patients and pharmacies.

Triage and process messages and emails from patients and front office staff to Physicians.

Order and review incoming reports on any necessary tests including MRI’s, CT’s, EMG’s and Injections.

Ascertain that all consent forms are gone over with the patients at their pre‑op appointment, questions are answered, and the forms are filled out and signed.

Ensure that all necessary documents and imaging studies are taken from the office to the OR for surgery.

Assist with completing/sending/receiving patient disability paperwork.

Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include respecting or promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with physician quickly.

All other duties as assigned by Physician, clinical coordinator or practice administrator.

Salary & Benefits $71,000‑$109,000 depending on experience.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Knowledge of surgical and medical office procedures.

Knowledge of computer systems and applications.

Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to type patient information.

Skill in operating business office machines.

Skills in answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.

Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public.

Hours of business are Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must be able to work early, late and long hours, as needed, to meet the essential functions of the job
