Patient Care Assistant, Evenings
Location:
San Francisco, CA – Parnassus Heights (SF)
Job Summary The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) receives daily assignments and functions under the supervision of the Registered Nurse to carry out direct patient care responsibilities in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The shift for this position is 2pm-10:30pm, Monday through Friday. All patient care team members collaborate to meet patient needs, learn new skills, and provide quality patient care and customer service.
Salary range:
$32.04 - $40.06 per hour. Final salary and offer components are subject to UC policy and internal equity. For more information, visit the UC Benefits page.
Department Description The Preanesthesia (Preop) and Post-Anesthesia Care Units (PACU) at Parnassus comprise 37 combined Preop and PACU beds, plus one Procedure Room. Over 75 Perianesthesia specialty nurses provide compassionate care for a wide variety of patients following anesthesia. The unit prepares patients for surgery, provides preoperative teaching, and cares for patients during recovery. The interdisciplinary team includes nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists, pain service physicians, and respiratory therapists.
Required Qualifications
Ability to work effectively within a team
Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job description
Willingness to be taught/learn new skills
English language proficiency, both oral and written
Basic arithmetic computation skills (addition and subtraction)
Organizational skills and ability to set priorities
Preparedness to perform first responder duties in emergency situations
Successful completion of Medical Center Patient Care Assistant training
Basic computer skills
Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of medical terminology appropriate to the responsibilities of the job
