Sr Mobile Diesel Mechanic – Cox Automotive Inc. (Fleet Services)
Join a leading fleet maintenance company that provides mobile, on‑site mobile maintenance and repair services nationwide. As a senior mobile diesel technician, you will ensure compliance with DOT regulations and keep fleets running across the country.
Responsibilities
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
Make minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment (Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines, Transmissions, Clutches, Differentials, etc.).
Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment (Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning systems, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines, Transmissions, Clutches, Differentials, etc.).
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and confirm proper operation.
Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and make sound judgments using accurate information.
Manage parts inventory and equipment on company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
Maintain and operate service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
Provide client assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy customer expectations.
Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time effectively.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
Document and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders ("RO") using our proprietary TRAIT application.
Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation promptly.
Work independently, manage own daily schedule, and maintain productivity within standard repair times.
Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
Communicate with management and support team via email or phone for approvals on repair estimates, purchase order numbers, or RO findings.
Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Requirements
High School Diploma/GED with 5 years of related experience; alternative qualifications include any higher degree or certification with 3 or 7 years of experience.
Supply personal hand tools required for job duties.
Obtain ASE certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
Obtain ASE certification 608/609 within 18 months.
Pass DOT-regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or submit valid DOT medical card with > 4 months remaining).
Be at least 21 years old.
Hold a valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license and be eligible for a driver qualification file.
