The medical dosimetrist is a member of the radiation oncology team, with expertise in radiation therapy treatment planning and clinical relevance of radiation oncology. Responsibilities
Design treatment plans delivering prescribed radiation doses while sparing critical structures per the Radiation Oncologist's prescription. Identify and contour normal and dose‑limiting structures using images from CT, MRI, PET, and perform image registration. Create and transfer reference images and localization markers for portal verification and treatment delivery (DRRs, CBCT, IGRT). Supervise or assist in simulations and tumor localization using CT, MRI, PET. Supervise or assist in fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam modifying devices. Supervise or assist in production of moulds, casts, and immobilization devices. Assist the radiation therapist(s) in implementing treatment plans, including use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangements. Perform dose calculations, document information in the patient record, verify accuracy by approved methods. Assist Medical Physicist with radiation safety, calibrations, QA, and equipment quality assurance. Operate and perform QA on the treatment planning computer(s) under Medical Physicist direction. Assist in patient and beam dosimetry methods as directed. Assist in brachytherapy planning, dose calculations, and materials handling. Use radiation monitoring devices to measure radioactivity and perform assays. Teach applied aspects of medical dosimetry to students, therapists, residents. Participate in quality improvement processes. Requirements
Graduate of an accredited dosimetry program or hospital training program under supervision of a board‑certified medical dosimetrist or physicist. Certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (current or within 1 year). Preferred: registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days. Senior Level
