What’s the role? Senior Control System Engineer (CSE) serves as the focal point for process control system performance & technical assurance in the assigned production team. The CSE enables operations to efficiently and safely control operating units using the process control system tools and equipment, including field instrumentation, DCS hardware, base layer controls, complex controls, and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).

What You’ll Be Doing

Focal point for Instrumentation, Control Systems and SIS (safety instrumented systems) issues

Identification, design and implementation of new and improved base layer and complex controls for safety, reliability, profitability and environmental improvements

Proactive Technical Monitoring of the base layer and complex controls for continuous improvements to assure reliable and optimized operations

Familiar with unit process technologies and operations and understanding of unit operation constraints for the identification of process control improvement opportunities

Supports turnarounds to provide engineering and technical assurance, as well as execution of PACO related scopes

Lead or participate in troubleshooting of complex process and control issues, including the investigation of unit/equipment trips and other reliability events

Interface with capital projects to provide technical assurance in process control scope development and implementation

Supports advanced process control applications as required

Operator training of process control systems

Provide mentoring and coaching to junior team members and Instrument Technicians

Senior CSE Tools

ESP (Ensure Safe Production) participant: Alarm configuration, alarm review, alarm metrics, revalidations and using ACM/UTL for PTM monitoring

MOC (Management of Change): Knowledgeable in the process and uses the process to enact changes. Acts as Responsible Party (RP) for PACO centric plant changes and is the primary evaluator for multi-discipline changes

RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) participant: Provides guidance for Preventative Maintenance tasks and participates in RCM studies. Advises Technicians while troubleshooting Instrument Asset Management System (IAMS)

PCD (Process Control Domain) Security: Aware and directs others of the dangers and risks associated with the process control domain

What We Need From You

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full‑time basis for anyone other than the current employer

Minimum 3 years direct support experience in manufacturing operations

Bachelor of Chemical, Electrical or other engineering disciplines

Demonstrated knowledge of practical process control work experience

Hands‑on experience with DCS systems, preferably Emerson DeltaV or Yokogawa Centum VP

What We Offer The base salary range for this position is $122,000 - $182,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full‑time or regular part‑time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non‑birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short‑term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long‑Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long‑term incentives.
