Overview
The City of Concord is looking for an experienced Landscape Gardener in the Public Works Department. The position is open until filled and will be reviewed the week of January 5, 2026. What You Will Do
The Landscape Gardener performs parks maintenance, gardening, weed abatement, and grounds keeping work in assigned areas such as parks, traffic medians, open space, public rights‑of‑way, and ball fields. Duties include ensuring City resources are aesthetically pleasing and available for recreation, measuring results and daily data related to program outcomes, and suggesting process improvements. This role differs from the Maintenance Worker in Parks by providing a higher level of professional service and potential lead responsibilities. Key Responsibilities
Report work assignments, delays, time, tasks, and materials used daily. Water, fertilize, mow, weed, edge, and replace turf per schedule. Maintain ornamental plants, shrubs, hedges, and flowers. Clean walkways, driveways, parking areas, and drainage facilities; keep restrooms, play equipment, and picnic areas orderly. Prepare soils and cultivate around plants, shrubs, and trees. Inspect and maintain irrigation systems, including cleaning sprinkler heads, repairing valves, and programming controllers. Monitor plant health and report diseases and pests. Perform additional parks maintenance tasks such as installing header boards, assembling picnic tables, repairing barbecue pits, installing barricade fencing, and assisting with carpentry and concrete work. Apply fungicides, herbicides, and pesticides as needed. Propagate flowers, shrubs, or trees as appropriate. Respond to emergency or complaint calls regarding park conditions. What We Offer

Working knowledge of methods, tools, materials, and practices used in parks maintenance; knowledge of plant names, disease control, irrigation systems, fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, and pesticides. Ability to adapt to changing assignments, operate equipment safely, use electronic devices for data entry, perform horticultural tasks, follow instructions, work independently or as a team, provide lead direction, practice high customer service, and maintain professional relationships. Education / Experience
High school diploma or equivalent plus 9 units of ornamental horticulture coursework or equivalent training. Three years of grounds maintenance experience. Other Requirements
California driver’s license and satisfactory driving record; supplemental certification or licensure relevant to the landscape program area may be required during probation. EEO/ADA Statement
