Principal or Senior Principal Network and Communications Field Service Engineer – R10215958-5 Location: RAAF Base Edinburgh, near Adelaide, Australia. Relocation assistance: None. Clearance: Top Secret. Travel: Yes, up to 50% of the time.

Overview Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems invites experienced network and communications engineers to support the MQ‑4C Triton platform at a forward operating base in Australia. The role includes daily tasking from site lead, real‑time support for flight operation and maintenance, and full‑time on‑site presence.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide real‑time support for flight operations and maintenance, addressing any issues related to communications and networking, including fault isolation, remediation, and resolution.

Perform field integration, troubleshooting, and repair of communications and data link systems in a military flight test environment, including operations on a flightline, in a hangar, and in command‑and‑control centers.

Adhere to checklists and procedures, providing redlines to procedures when necessary.

Communicate complex technical issues to local support, the Degrader Action Cell (DAC), Main Operation Bases (MOBs), and Responsible Engineers (REs).

Support and lead air crew engagement for proper techniques in solving complex analysis of technical problems that arise during operations.

Assist with trend analysis as needed for Responsible Engineers (REs).

Review and analyze supplier design data and define functional test requirements, including acceptance, qualification, and system integration.

Take responsibility for testing, maintenance, and integration of comms and networks equipment (radio terminals, software loads, switches, routers, firewalls) required to support ground and flight test operations.

Work with system administrators, maintainers, and onsite personnel to troubleshoot and repair any internal operational issues.

Qualifications Basic Qualifications – Principal Field Service Engineer

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; or Master’s degree and 3 years of experience; or PhD and 1 year of experience.

Ability to obtain and maintain DoD 8140 approved IAT Level II (or higher) compliance (e.g., Security+CE, CCNP, CISSP).

Competence in Linux, troubleshooting, engineering documents, tools and equipment.

Familiarity with comms/networking operations.

Minimum 18‑month assignment at location.

Pass a new‑hire physical if required.

Active DoD Top Secret clearance.

Additional clearances required: SCI access, CI Polygraph, SAP clearance.

Basic Qualifications – Senior Principal Field Service Engineer

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience; or Master’s degree and 6 years; or PhD and 4 years of experience.

Same certification, competence, and clearance requirements as Principal level.

Preferred Qualifications (Both Levels)

DoD 8140 approved IAT Level II (or higher) certification.

Technical expertise in networking and computer hardware/software interconnection.

Experience with test equipment (network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators).

CCNA certification.

Experience with IP networks, VoIP, satellite and LOS RF communications.

Operations and maintenance experience at a field site.

Compensation and Benefits Primary Level Salary Range: $85,600 – $128,400. Secondary Level Salary Range: $106,800 – $160,200. Potential for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and Long‑Term Incentives.
