Summary The Complex Problems (CP) Program Leader (PL) mentors new AU students by integrating learning experiences from inside and outside the CP seminar, building community, providing academic and social guidance, and serving as liaison between faculty and students.

Essential Functions

Meetings and Communication:

Attend all CP seminar meetings; prepare appropriately.

Attend weekly team meetings with Senior PLs / CP Staff.

Attend planning/one‑on‑one meetings with assigned faculty.

Utilize AU email account; check daily for PL correspondence.

Communicate regularly, maintaining positive relationships with faculty, Senior PLs, and CP Staff.

Programming and Student Support:

Plan, implement, and report on a minimum of three co‑curricular learning opportunities in collaboration with faculty.

One opportunity must be completed within the first six weeks.

Engage each student in a 1‑to‑1 discussion within six weeks.

Meet with students as needed via office hours or appointments.

Community Facilitation:

Develop and facilitate an environment where students grow socially and academically.

Promote tolerance and consideration among students.

Engage in and facilitate class discussion when appropriate.

Advise or refer students regarding academic, personal, or social matters.

Apply knowledge of university resources.

Provide social and academic guidance.

Serve as liaison between students and faculty/CP staff, communicating updates and concerns.

Other Responsibilities:

Send a welcome email to students prior to semester start.

Meet or communicate with seminar instructor prior to semester.

Report concerns and violations of university policies to CP Staff.

Abide by FERPA, professional and ethical standards, maintain confidentiality.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

Part‑time: 5–7 hours per week, approximately 80 hours total for the semester.

Hours include 2.5 hours of CP seminar, 30‑minute planning/one‑on‑one with faculty, 2 hours availability for students and preparation, and 30‑minute weekly team meeting.

Hours may fluctuate; total must not exceed 80 hours.

Hours logged on timesheets each pay period.

Position runs from January 9 2026 to May 6 2026.

Salary Range

$17.95 per hour.

Required Education And Experience

Undergraduate student, full‑time status (12–17.5 credits).

Minimum 30 credits at AU (sophomore standing) and completion of CORE 105, 106, or 107.

Maintain cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.

Academic credit, status, and GPA verified before semester.

Attend and fully participate in required staff training before semester.

Submit written request by Program Coordinator for any missed training.

Attend departmental training and development throughout semester.

Additional Information

Consequences: verbal warning, probation, or termination for performance or conduct issues.

Grievance Process: report to faculty, Program Manager, Senior PL, or Director of AU Core.

Recognition of Excellent Performance: exceptional contributions may be celebrated by staff.

Time Commitment: balancing scheduled and unscheduled responsibilities; availability needed at various times.

Learning Outcomes: campus resources, guidance skills, administrative experience, leadership, communication skills.

Role Model: adhere to university policies, maintain boundaries, no romantic/professional relations with students.

Other: one‑semester appointment; subject to re‑application and performance evaluations; possible involvement in evaluations.
