Position Overview Electra is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the development of flight software. This role will initially support work on Electra's EL2 aircraft, then transition to supporting the EL9 Ultra Short development. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on a cutting‑edge development program.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Support the continued development of EL2 flight software, including pilot displays, FTI systems, and flight control computers.
Support analysis of flight test data related to onboard flight control and computational systems of the EL2.
Participate in code reviews.
Address and resolve complex software engineering challenges.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (engineering, operations, program leadership, suppliers, certification leads) to ensure successful project execution.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline with at least 5+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Required Skills & Qualifications
Proficiency with Matlab and scripting.
Experience with C, JavaScript, and Git.
Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a cross‑functional, team‑oriented environment.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
Proficiency with HTML.
Familiarity with networking and Linux.
Knowledge of communication protocols (e.g., UDP, CAN, serial).
Troubleshooting embedded systems, scoping, bus sniffing.
Experience with UX/GUI design using web frameworks like node.js.
Experience with electronics, embedded systems and/or avionics integration and testing.
Experience with aviation software standards, DO‑178C, software certification and regulatory processes.
Experience across the full life‑cycle development of aircraft systems.
Experience with fly‑by‑wire and/or electric propulsion aircraft systems.
Data visualization and presentation skills.
Private pilot certificate.
Location Headquarters in Manassas, VA. A strong preference for on‑site location.
Travel 25% domestic & international travel.
Salary Electra's overall salary range for this level is: $130,000.00–$160,000.00. Individual pay is based on project budgets, job‑related skills, experience, and location.
